Our Blackberry VR6 - Returning Her To Her Former Glory!!

Recommended Posts

Howdy!!

My other half and I have been fans of Dubs for a long time now and now the time has come for us to make a new purchase in the form of a Blackberry VR6 in need of a little TLC!

We have a rather long list of things we want/need to do to return her to her former glory so here goes (in no particular order):

1 ) Touch up stone chips on front end

2 ) Paint rear end

3 ) Coil-overs

4 ) Wheels

5 ) De-swirl full car

6 ) MOT advisories

7 ) CAI

8 ) Remove original dealer sticker & badge

9 ) Lupo aero wipers

11 ) New front seats

10 ) Retrim interior

11 ) Replace front fog lights

12 ) Paint wheels hubs & brake calipers

13 ) Paint front grill

14 ) Clean engine bay

15 ) Under bonnet bits

16 ) Remove rub strips

17 ) New steering wheel

18 ) New dash (possibly MKIV Golf)

19 ) Replace stereo with double din

20 ) Sort speakers

My intention is to update this thread as we go and hopefully you should already begin to see some progress!!

I didn't see it on eBay, we found it on Pistonheads and it had only been up for a day when we went to view it! But sounds like the same one. The lady we bought it off bought it in 99 with about 12k on the clock!

Wow...!! I can't believe how much we have done to the car in the 2 weeks or so since we got her!!

Last weekend we decided to 'swiss cheese' the air box whilst deciding which induction kit to go for. The paperwork that came with the car said it had been serviced in October and March with the air filter being changed in October. Since then the car had done less than 3k miles so imagine our surprise when we found the filter in this condition:

I doubt that it has been changed in the last 10k miles never mind 3k!!

I have learned something too this week! I have discovered that my better half DOES listen to me! I mentioned (maybe once or twice!!) that I would like the grill painted. I went to the gym on Tuesday night and when I got home found that Steve had painted my grill:

The Porsche D90s we in need of some TLC when we got them so decided to have them diamond cut. They should be ready to go on tomorrow:

Also the coilovers were fitted this morning!

Was that 'dealer service'? If so the state of the air filter doesn't surprise me at all.

I had exactly the same experiance when switching from years of dealer 'service' due to owning a VR from 22 months old to going to a respected independant.

They showed me the air filter after years of dealer service and it looked like the one you found.

Nice car btw

Thanks Judith! No she was using a 'specialist'!! From reading the paperwork it seems she had been getting ripped off each time she took the car in!!

This looked great today at All Types. Really nice paintwork and the wheels are spot on. Fantastic progress so far. Shame the weather didn't improve much as would have liked some better pics of this one

Hats off to you. Had a look round your car on Sunday and it's looking very good. Massive improvement to what it was when on sale. Just goes to show what a bit/lot of TLC can do.

Hopefully get the chance to say hello in the summer shows.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it was actually painted... BMW Frozen Grey.
