Front brakes sticking

Recommended Posts

So now the front brakes are binding. both fronts, wierd. I'm leaning towards flexi hoses, but both at same time??. Calipers sliders free, pistons ok. Standard 2.0 16v set up. With abs. Any thoughts welcome. Begining to think this motor posessed!!!!,

When was the fluid last changed??

Replacement calipers are cheap enough exchange but check the carriers are not badly corroded first.

had this problem on my escort, and it was the flexihoses, where they pass through some metal, the metal has rusted and kinda swollen around the hose, meaning the fluid couldn't move through very easily.

less likely, but it could also be the pistons themselves rusted into the calipers...

seeing as you're doing the flexis and hoses anyway, i would get hold of a new set of seals from VW (they're pretty cheap iirc) and whip the pistons out at the same time just to inspect them.

if the fluid is that old and water-contaminated that it's rotted the flexi-hoses then chances are that the pistons aren't fairing too well either. you'd be surprised just how nasty they can get under those seals without you ever seeing them or realising it.
