dannyboy 0 Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) Well guys most members show off their pride and joy from start to finish,so ive decided to join the fun First off- bought in south of germany 3200 euro(bargained to 3000) with 125k km on the clock G60 in tornado red sunroofless model.Had a recent engine rebuild and compression test showing 10.5 bar across all cylinders. Think it was a fair price considering it has been cared for Edited November 3, 2011 by dannyboy
dannyboy 0 Posted May 30, 2011 had a bit of a pull to the left so went to local aligment center. On the ramps, the guy advised me the steering ball joint and track arm ball joint was getting sloppy So off to VW to get some parts

dannyboy 0 Posted May 30, 2011 Went back to tuv centre and the guy also advised me the HC emissions were little high nearing 900 ppm but not a reason for failing(max 1200) back home to check fueling and number one cause of overfuelling on a g60. ecu hose of to Vw to order some

dannyboy 0 Posted May 30, 2011 cheers mike, its going to take a while and im slowly aquiring pieces. thing is i dont know what to build? 16v60 is top of my list at the moment as ive just managed to find and buy a rare 50mm scirocco upper and lower intake(400 euro!!!) in local magazine But im also looking at 1.8t or TFSI or 16vt
dannyboy 0 Posted June 12, 2011 right update, been busy on flebay,bought:- golf g60 intercooler, smaller rado radiator with fan top mounts Gas shocks SKF bearings all round Exhaust manifold+fitting kit Then off to VW for bushes, bolts and ball joints Got R32 bushes to help tighten front end of the car and another oil change
dannyboy 0 Posted June 12, 2011 i was getting mega p!$$ed off with vague, wallowy suspension and deffo got to change top mounts. So started saturday morning and ll my work came to a aburpt halt when trying to remove the ABS sensor that had been on there 21 years decided to snap on me!!!!!! :bonk: The steering wheel is now 30 degree to the left but all the slack in the suspension is gone had the car goes into the corners like its on rails I was quite surprised, the gas shocks are very good on the front. They still transmit what the tyres are doing on the road but bumps are not back jarring, bouncely, mess it was!!! i highly recommend them to people who like standard height and comfort but firm control of the car.Prob about 1 % people in here that actually stayed oem height! The oil in the OEM dampers was black but dampers were in good nick so fresh oil and new seals theyll be good as new if i do want to return fully OEM The top mounts were in very bad condition, left one the bottom of the disc was ready to fall out.Looks like it was oirginal too! You can see the difference between the two

dannyboy 0 Posted June 29, 2011 Well after a long time debating to myself which direction to go, i decided to go down the 1.8t route Ive just driven to uk and back on sunday (2300 km) with low milege APX engine complete with ASD gearbox, ecu and looms.Came with organic VR6 clutch and DBW footpedal(which ive just found out is from 1.9tdi) will footpedal work?no idea, the loom also doesnt have connector for DBW footpedal but bdw throttle body.strange also came with dubpower downpipe and cat bypass 2.5 inch which means ill have to get bigger exhaust, well thats my excuse  Going to be very interesting to see if i can fit a RHD loom to a LHD corrado! Need to find someone who can modify the loom for rado and use it on a LHD car Pictures of coversion coming soon!!!!
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted June 29, 2011 nice one! the loom shouldn't be to much trouble i would have thought... the cars are essentially the same for LHD and RHD. It's only the steering column and the interior dash thats different.
dannyboy 0 Posted June 30, 2011 oh the ECU is de-imobilised and the exhaust pipe is Qpeg not dubpower. Yeah was thinking that alex but the fuse box is on the opposite side, just wondering if loom stretches that far? we'll have to see. Think the only good thing about LHD is the brake servo is on right hand side(looking from front) of the bulkhead so it doesnt interfere with engine in any way. I was feeling brave to try tackle wiring but theres hardly any diagrams for it.Starting to think maybe getting the loom modified by company will be much quicker, but then thats taking away the fun of the conversion Just looking at the head part number- 058 103 373 D That doesnt match up with APX on VAG.com even though APX is stamped (proper dot matrix letters) Anyone got an idea? dannyboy 0 Posted June 30, 2011 Niceish day so cut the grass and washed the rado. Might be outting 1.8t on hold soon if landlord gives me a decent price offer for the house though
dannyboy 0 Posted July 29, 2011 Just a quick update, loom is half finished, just need to add the G1 and G2 connectors so it will be a straight plug in to the fuse box but the info on the VSS is still a little hazy. Some people say you need an adpator to get the signal properly, others say just to bridge the diodie so im not sure.Need to weld up a plate onto the pedalbox to mount DBW pedal and find the right steering pump as g60 one is a 52 mm offset when it needs to be 40 odd mm. ive been busy lately but had time to look over the engine properly. The turbo has quite a bit of axial play(not touching sides but close),the engine is weeping oil slighty at the head gasket at the rear and FRP vacuum union on top is bent due to sellers lifting chains. not looking good. :( Add to that missing a MAF sensor(costs 137 new over here). Might take the sump off to make sure the seller hasnt sold me a completely duff engine :(
dannyboy 0 Posted July 30, 2011 Decided to vist the scrap yard close to me to see if i could find a steering pump as the g60 one is offset a bit so belt wont line up. Found a nice mk3 golf with front end already off and stacked on top of another car so it was easy to get the pump off. Back to the garage, took the pump and bolted it on to the engine and finally the pulley from mk4 golf.Perfect fit. One job down, hundred to go.... Also had a sale on so treated myself to new pressure washer and its very good :smug: Managed to get 6.3 l/100km on the way back from hamburg, result! (i didnt cheat,i didnt reset mfa or anything, just drove feathering the throttle) Who says G60's are petrol guzzler's? :thumbleft:
dannyboy 0 Posted August 7, 2011 My 20v conversion has ground to a halt.I decided to have a look last week to check overall condition of the engine. What was worrying was the amount of axial play in the turbo and oil leak at rear of the engine. So decided to sent it to a audi specialist who deals with these engines day in,day out. Oh dear, the turbo bearings are on the limit of wear, blades just touching the compressor walls. The head gasket has started to leak and the cam lobes are quite worn. The FPR is damaged and the fuel rail is cracked. :( Been quoted 798 euro to fix it.Bummer :( suppose ive got to fork out for it now.
dragon green 5 Posted August 7, 2011 Wow,thats bad news, But it will be worth it in the end,
dannyboy 0 Posted August 7, 2011 Im not happy chappy mate to be honest, but there you go. Found second hand fuel rail yesterday in german VW scene ads for 40 euro so saved 106 euro already.FPR included too!The HG is unavoidable,so is the turbo. But i might have a second hand pair of cams with lower mileage and new set of followers from my german buddy at cheaper price. My fingers are crossed they take the head off and hopefully there isnt much bore wear!!!!!! Do you ever get the feeling youve been let down?
dannyboy 0 Posted August 9, 2011 This kind of thing only happens on the 29th of febuary!! Was told by one of mates,he found it and spent last night chuckling then felt bit depressed I miss her...
dannyboy 0 Posted August 19, 2011 Small update from yesterday.Head removed skimmed, pressure tested and new HG put on.They were very quick had it done in an hour and half! I really liked the air tools with the torque adjustable display which tells you how much NM your torquing to! cost 226 euro Obviously they had a look at the bore and said its ok.Bought second hand K04-20 and my buddy sourced me a pair of second hand cams with very little wear on them and new set of hydralic lifters.cost 289 euro Now i can finally start moving again!!! also spoke to my insurance company allianz, they arent charging me extra for the engine upgrade even though i told they its 225 ps engine -Result!!!!!!
