Portent 0 Posted July 6, 2011 Not sure if it will fit? The sunroof is a Corrado is not interchangeable and replacement casettes are usually from a Passat I think. DOn't know for sure though. However I recently cleaned mine up with some interior cloth shampoo. It made quite a difference.
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted July 6, 2011 an original one is only a certain seal profile cut to the appropriate length. I paid £45 at the stealer's about 2 months ago so £25 sounds good. But I've always been interested in looking at the profile and seeing if I can buy just a length of it from somewhere like here http://www.coruba.co.uk/searchresults.aspx?typeid=115&searchcrit=18_190 would be LOADS cheeper
swiftkid 1 Posted July 6, 2011 Seeing as its quite an important seal I could do without it leaking so if theres a doubt im just going to go buy new, false economy and all that. Think i'm going to be beyond skint after this respray, its all the little bits that cost the most!
RW1 0 Posted July 6, 2011 Sunroof seals will always leak as fitted to the Corrado. They only deflect the water when its a bit more than a misting. That is why in part, there is a drip collection trough inside the frame. If its not leaking now (old one, then the black felt part is clogged with dirt). The important bit is the profile does not cause extra load on the mechanism by being too wide for the gap. Obviously if the seal is not wide enough to fill the gap, then it is also unsuitable as leakage will be more severe. And the other important bit is when a new seal is fitted. Inside the "U" shaped gripping part should be sealed with something like copydex or a smear of thicker brake grease to stop the capilliary action of the rain running round the metal lip edge into the interior. . Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 6, 2011 The important bit is the profile does not cause extra load on the mechanism by being too wide for the gap. Which is why new seals (VAG) should be warmed up and stretched into place as much as possible, otherwise the very sensitive mechanism can indeed jam as you say. You can tell when this is the case (and / or if the panel is misaligned) because the main roof moves and 'thunks' as the sunroof panel drops down. Takes a while to get these fickle roofs 'just so', but once working they should carry on working indefinitely, providing the proper VAG 'Sliding mechanism' grease is used.
