Parts of shell, to be cut out?

What i'm after and i think its going to be a long shot is the sill part, but right at the front where it meets the front arch. And also part of the sill.

 

 

Its a right pain in the arse, and tbh i'm not even sure i am going to continue with the car anymore, depends how well it goes finding the bit of metal (can you still buy parts like this from VW?, no doubt its a silly price) I imagine if someone is scrapping a shell then this part will probably be rusty already.

not even sure how to repair it, as there are three lips all welded together along the sill and two of them are rusty

suspect the exact same went on mine- I just had a panel welded on to get it through the MOT, but I would like to repair it properly.

 

Would be great if you could take plenty pics if you do go ahead with the work...

i think the rust has all been caused from being jacked up in the wrong place once. I reckon the sill bent upwards very slightly, the wax inside has cracked and the water has been running the wrong way and getting sucked along the sill

Just stripped mine and its gone in exactly the same place. Went to tps to buy some more and they were made obsolete in February this year.

The piece is available via Classic Parts and includes the whole A Pillar. About £109 + VAT before it went obselete.

lot of money, don't really fancy paying that much. Especially with all the other stuff i'm going to need to buy

thats £109 just for the bit of metal, i got a rear qtr for my escort for under £20 :lol:

yes they are the bits, is that a car your scrapping?

 

have you poked around to see if they are rusted at all, i need the front curvy shaped bit and then about 12 inch of where it returns under the sill

A decent fabricator worth their salt would be able to knock that up out of sheet. Or if you were doing it yourself cardboard template. Trace onto steel. Cut out, bend to suit and tack in place, then seam weld into the body. Zinc primed. Job done. Time for a cup of tea and a biscuit. Possibly two biscuits if you've done an especially good job.
