Recaro "Specialist" cloth seats £250 - worth it?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have a chance to buy some Recaro "Specialist" seats, see pics below (sorry they are schitty iphone cam pics):

Apparently they came from a Porsche but I cannot be 100% certain (unless one of the numbers on the bottom label is a Porsche part number?)

Obviously the mounting is totally incorrect to fit a Corrado, but I noted that the mounting bolts (6 in total, three on each side) that hold the current seat mounts to the actual seat are 16" / 41cm apart. Its a fairly shallow mount as well...

The actual seats are in near enough mint condition with no creases or bolster wear.

So the question is:

1) Are they worth it?

2) Would you buy them if you had the chance?

3) rough cost to get them them into a Corrado?

I found a place in the US that does conversion brackets for seats. Will give them a bell on Monday to see what prices they come out with. As my current interior is standard leather, id be looking to get these recovered in black leather + maybe a touch of perforated alcantara to match some other bits (although it does seem a shame to ruin perfectly good Recaros!)

Decisions decisions!

cheers

at the end of the day the question is do you think they are worth it?? personally i say yes they are, and would look good in a corrado.

Yeah i am a bit torn to tell you the truth as they kinda just "came up" out of the blue when I was searching for other Recaro seats. What got me started was that i was hell bent on finding some original Corrado Recaros in leather (yes i know they are rarer than the teeth of a very rare thing on a night with a blue moon)...

If i buy these seats then they HAVE to be retrimmed which is easily going to set me back about £800, so looking at >£1000 in total once i factor in the cost of the seats and the subframes.

I could just have my original leathers redone and save myself the hassel OR i could wait forever looking for a set of leather Corrado Recaros to miraculously appear. I guess i was just looking to get some ideas from people who have fitted aftermarket Recaro's to a Corrado on how difficult it is and how much it costs to get the right sumframes made up....

i'd say £800 is too much for a retrim, i'm paying £100 for a half trim of two recaro's!

and find someone's who's handy with a grinder and a welder for the subframes :)

Look very similar to the original Recaros as fitted when they left the factory with that option and the colours tie in nicely with some of the interior trim options so I would say it is worth while fitting them.

you think it would be hard getting them to look like this? Apart from the backrest side bolsters being a different shape, the other stitching on the base and backrest could be replicated right?

Yes the stitching could be replicated. If you're going to retrim then you may be able to get the proper bolsters from Recaro so you end up with exact replicas.

Also is this of any use for a subframe?

One last thing - yours won't be heated but you can get aftermarket heating kits. It might be worth adding one.
