VR6 - Black smoke under hard acceleration and massiv oil usage ??

Recommended Posts

Car is using massive amount of oil, what I mean is about 2-2,5 liters every 1k miles :( - Defo no leaks

Under hard acceleration smokes badly in black, big black cloud behind a car

What's wrong ?? Piston rings gone ??

Car pass emission test with excellent results and has around 165k miles on clock.

check oil cap for spunk, could be head gasket...

headgasket fine, no water leak, no water in oil, no oil in water

Valve stem seals isn't it if you're using oil and getting a load of black smoke?

I think it's got to be rings with that oil usuage... 165k is a lot of miles on a VR!

I know that but have another one with 187k miles and oil usage is about 200ml on 7k miles. I was very shocked about that.

After i had the the head rebuilt on my VR it was using about 2-2.5k in 400 miles. Took it back to the garage and just before they were going to remove the head they found that a breather pipe was completely gunked up. Cleaned it out, and presto engine worked a treat, oil consumption dropped and no more smoking.

Worth a check before in case it is something as easy as this.
