Stonejag 10 Posted November 24, 2011 Just a quick question: do the AAA and ABV engines use the same (length) dipstick? Mine's snapped in half - quite fancy a gruvenparts billet one but they're built for the AAAs that were fitted in the States. Same part, or not? Cheers :) Stone
GlosterOx 0 Posted November 24, 2011 On Vagcat there are 2 VR6 dipsticks listed, depending on Chassis Nr - The latter one (021115607) is the same as a similar age (Circa 1995) 2.8 VR6 Golf. Hope that helps. Ian.
Critical_Mass 10 Posted November 24, 2011 Would be odd if they're different as the engines are practically the same. though it is Vw we're talking about.
Stonejag 10 Posted November 24, 2011 Just had a look at its ring (:camp:) - it fell over the dipstick tube when it snapped so at least I didn't lose it! It's worn almost flat but it looks like 021 115 611 - from this it looks like that's the early one, isn't it? My engine number is ABV0013403 but I think that's a transplant as the vehicle check I got before I bought it says it was built with ABV017711. Stranger and stranger! I haven't got the guide sleeve either  Stone
James. 9 Posted November 24, 2011 I had a similar issue. 92 vr6 with a 94 engine. Bought a s/h one from a 92 vr and it didn't fit. Didn't realise there were two types until I got it home.
Stonejag 10 Posted November 25, 2011 Can open, worms everywhere  Go on then: what's the difference?
boost monkey 0 Posted November 25, 2011 I'm guessing it's the length. Just a shot in the dark though.
Stonejag 10 Posted November 25, 2011 D'oh, I thought you meant the engine didn't fit! :bonk: Think I'll go and have a lie down...
