Project Q

Recommended Posts

heres the pics , i have more if you want to see them,

DSC00793.jpg

DSC00801.jpg

there prety much spot on, got the handle mech to work so it will open/close, ^ seems before there was to much flex so it needed more pull to open the latch, this works fine now though,

other issue is part of the lock barrel protrudes into the path of the window by like 6mm, luckily i have an old beat up door at my disposal :) i'll figure it out, might have to try a different lock latch?

more syncro bits bought :o

All these bits (except the diff) came from Germany, I tell you what, the German post are cost effective and efficient!!

I best get cracking with the grinder and welder now.

Things are going much slower than I had hoped. I have started to weld up a few things and cut out anything thats not needed. Last job I did was take the fuel tank out ready for boot floor grinding.

I have been pre-occupied with other projects unfortunately, including House, audi air lift and recent accidental purchase of a supermoto.

Current thing holding me up is the sourcing of the vr6 rear beam attachment brackets. I can find loads of non vr6 ones but the vr spec items are fecking hard to find at a reasonable price.

Its been a while, again but have started to take the glass out of the car and have got myself some spot well drill bits. Also managed to get the vr6 syncro mounting brackets (finally) so I can get on with fitting the rear beam. Welded up the holes from the rear corrado script but had to lend my welder out.

Things are getting serious, bought myself a 4motion golf 2.8 v6 as a donor. Started to take the glass out of the rado.

I have one of them as well, often thought about it being a donor car if I ever thought about this as there not much worth these days.

One thing that Ive often wondered is would syncro system be better? People naturally go to Haldex as its newer but for me a permanent mech 4wd system just seem to feel better than the haldex system especially as the haldex really needs all the original sensors to work at its best.

Syncro uses similar methods to transfer the power to the rear, as Jamie said, both systems are biased to FWD, but when slip occurs the viscous coupling (haldex, syncro) start to turn the rear wheels. Haldex has better controll over this transfer and can cope with higher engine power (which I need :silly:)

Was toying with the idea of full 4motion sub frames but I think Ill go hybrid still (syncro rear beam with haldex fitted). The donor car is mostly for the electrical stuff like dash, engine looms, abs etc. Most of the mechanical stuff Ive already collected. Might still change my mind once I start laying it all out of course lol

if I remember Ill weigh the rear glass as Ive wondered how much this adds, especially if considering the CF rear boots that LWS offer.

Quick update, i seem to be acquiring parts more than actually doing work on the project. Recently bought a complete 4motion golf as a donor for bits. Once stripped Ill cut it up which will allow me access to the corrado again as its tucked away behind the golf

Did you make much from braking the Mk4. Ive got mine up for sale with no interest and thinking of just braking it as I should get about £1k more doing that from my calcs.

tbh I bought the 4mo cheap and recouped a good amount from the leather interior. Next up for sale is the engine. Once thats gone i can roll the car easier and get to the other bits to store/bin and sell.

cars are always worth more as parts, its rediculus
