jimmybricks 10 Posted January 6, 2012 hi the top mounts need changing on my 1.8 16v corrado standard suspension, ive had a look at some previous posts and had a go at them last week end in the ****ing down rain with no joy!!! going to have another attempt in the morning, is there any step by step guides or walk through knocking about on here? went wrong when i could not get the slot nut off cheers
swiftkid 1 Posted January 6, 2012 By the sounds of it you're going about it the right way. The proper way to do it would be to take the strut off completely, compress the spring with spring compressors and then undo the nuts until the topmount comes off. That slotted nut is a royal pain in the backside and I've never had the proper tool for it but what I did was get a socket that fit the nut then grind it down to 2 teeth that fit. Hope that helps
davidwort 0 Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) you can get the slotted nut tool from lots of places, e.g. http://www.vwspares.co.uk/suspension_tools.php http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?cat=776&item=1562 Edited January 6, 2012 by davidwort
Supercharged 2 Posted January 6, 2012 Also worth saying it's probably a good idea to change the shocks too, especially when wheel alignment costs the best part of £100 these days!
