scottydogwoof 10 Posted February 1, 2012 Guys and gals, I am pretty sure that i have knackered brushes. i have stripped the back side of the alt and taken the brushes out. one is really short and grubby looking, the other one is still long ish but looks nicly polished. Hence my assumption the brushes are ko'd. I saw MrWort talking about a brush pack but where can i get these?? and are there any other checks i can do to check other alt componants. scottydogwoof Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
16VG60 1 Posted February 1, 2012 The brush pack or voltage regulator as it is known is available from dealer, or you could approach any specialist auto electrical centre or reconditioners. The only other replaceable component is the rectifier or diode pack, but this is less likely to be at fault, and alot more involved to replace. Start with the reg and progress from there if required. seanl82 23 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) I was looking at brushes a couple of weeks ago. There was only one set on eBay at the time, but may be more now. Get the part number off your alternator as a reference, as there are a couple of variations, hence the reason I could only find 1. There were a couple more for other variations than mine though. The one I was looking at was on an auction from a trade seller, and went for a fiver plus 3 quid delivery to give you an idea on how little you can get em for.
