m4ttj4mes 10 Posted February 29, 2012 hey guys, have done a search but to no prevale... im about to order a headgasket for my 1990 kr engine and am wondering what the drifference is between the (standard?) fibre faced one and the mulit-layered steel items available...? IF, it makes a difference the car is having a fair bit of work done including a fair skim off the head, should this affect my choice? finally where do you guys recommend as prices seem t differ but im sure quality will also.... help appreciated!!
seanl82 23 Posted February 29, 2012 Dont know the difference tbh, and I dont know if they're still available from the stealer but I would imagine so, and I'd recommend a dealership gasket. In my experience, pattern gaskets never quite fit properly, and will always leak/seap a little. For a head gasket I'd deffo be inclined towards the best quality part I could afford tbh. dannyboy 0 Posted March 4, 2012 The multi-layer steel ones are better, they changed from older fibre ones to steel when they made the g60.unless you fry the cylinder head by overheating I've never really known steel ones to pop? I didn't think u could get the fibre ones anymore anyway unless there after market. I'd stick to a dealer one or find a reinz one.
m4ttj4mes 10 Posted March 4, 2012 Thanks for the help guys, I think your right in that important bits such as headgaskets/oil pumps etc should be dealer ones really, nice one! Thread can be closed :)
