Gti182 10 Posted June 22, 2012 Hi peeps, viewing a corrado vr6 tomorrow and i know the chains haven't been done. Am i right in saying people recommend replacing the chains at +- 80k miles? If i was to replace them what kind of damage am i looking at from the dealers? TIA Neill
Portent 0 Posted June 22, 2012 They were meant to be a lifetime part and unfortunately tyhere is no real way of confirming if they need doing unless someone takes a look at them. Mine were done at around 135k I think. Some cars can go for much, much, higher mileage without the work being done. Sometimes they cause noise but not always. Personally I'd be ok at 80k but would start considering it at 120k but that's just me and there isn't an official answer. The dealer will be hugely expensive. Mine were done at D&G for around £1k but that included some other work too (so maybe £800 to £900???).
seanl82 23 Posted June 22, 2012 Its far more than that tbh. Just have a good listen, and if its nice and quiet at cold and at idle, there should be absolutely no problem for a fair few years! StArRaDo 10 Posted June 23, 2012 I get a rattling noise, like tin cans in the engine bay, in high 1st and towards 3rd. Is that a sign of chains or guide rails???
