high idle after battery disconnect

Recommended Posts

i've had my battery off for a couple of days while i had the flyhweel machined, it all went back together fine and started up well on its "choke" but after a while when it normally drops down to around 8-900 revs it didnt. it wont drop below 1000-1100. everything was fine before it went on the ramp.

is it because i've reset the ecu with the battery been off for so long or is this not normal? should i be chasing an air leak? im planning on taking it out for a spin about today just to see if it settles back into it's "values"

cheers jamie

With the flywheel lightened, I would imagine it will be idling a little high due to the lack of weight. I had it done to my Golf a few years ago, and don't remember it having a higher idle than normal, but I guess that could be the reason.

Nah, the idle is controlled by the ECU. More likely you knocked a temperature sensor and it's running it in warm-up mode all the time. Is it running monster rich and sucking at fuel economy?

Just to give this thread some closure.

Go the car off the ramp today and took it for a drive, after 10 mins or so of varied driving the car now idles perfectly so it was as i suspected just relearning its parameters :)

All's well
