Power steering fluid "oil cooler"

Recommended Posts

Just looking at the way the pipe comes through the front rad support. anyone been tempted to stick a cooler in the pipe?

My exhaust runs damn close to the steering rack you see, and tends to boil the fluid sometimes.

I thought it already was acting as an oil cooler by being routed that way by VW? It's in the airflow.

My old Bimmer had a kettle element shaped PAS pipe which slowed the fluid down enough to be cooled by airflow. That's about all you can do really as I've never seen a 'mocal' type PAS cooler before, must be a reason for that. Probably can't take the pressure, risk of air locks, slows the flow down too much etc etc.

How about lengthening the pipe & re-routing it back accross the front of the car behind the bumper air ducts ?

Larger pipe surface area = more cooling ?
