Oldtax 10 Posted December 15, 2012 Looking at a slave cylinder on GSF and they have 2 - premium and standard. Anyone know if there is much difference in quality? Also, how do people rate GSF? Cheers
16VG60 1 Posted December 15, 2012 Yes there often is a great deal of difference. You very much get what you pay for. My advice would be buy genuine part, or the same part as manufactured for VW, but sourced from a motor factor. You want the later superseded style slave cylinder with the resin body, not the earlier cast metal bodied item.
Oldtax 10 Posted December 15, 2012 Thanks John. Will try Camberleys ... always been good to me in the past. How you fixed in the near future to address some of the issues we looked at? And would you mind me watching so i can understand the car better? cheers
16VG60 1 Posted December 15, 2012 No probs John. Give me a call on Tuesday and we can arrange to tick some boxes. You are welcome to observe. Can't do Monday as am at Thruxton for the day.
bristolbaron 10 Posted December 16, 2012 GSF are great and generally good quality. i would always go for the expensive option on most things for a rado, especially ones i dont want to do again. for a 'normal' car, ie the mrs has a 1.0 arosa, id buy cheaper disks/pads etc.
Supercharged 2 Posted December 16, 2012 I try and avoid GSF at all costs now - so many poor quality and incorrect parts it's not worth the hassle! These guys usually do decent quality bits for things like this or go to VW http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1924 Part should be alloy, not painted - make sure you avoid the silver painted sh1te that you see on eBay!
