seanl82 23 Posted April 8, 2013 When I thought mine had died on the valver, I managed to find a set of brushes on ebay of all places! You'll need the serial number of your alternator iirc, to ensure the type of brushes will fit. There was only one set though, and I looked back a couple of days later, and it was gone. Lucky for me it was just a large earth and I managed to get to the bottom of it!
Wullie 1 Posted April 8, 2013 I got the brushpack from Eurocarparts. Mine is a 1.8 16v, not sure what flavour 16v you have. http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-regulators-relays-and-solenoids
Supercharged 2 Posted April 8, 2013 What car do you have? A brush pack is £10 from any decent Auto-electric place or geniune from VW is about £25 and usually much better quality too
borders16v 0 Posted April 8, 2013 Thanks fo the help guys.Mines a 93k 2.0 16v. I think this is the part i need but will double check first. http://www.jcrsupplies.co.uk/products/ALTERNATOR_REBUILD_PARTS/ALTERNATOR_REGULATORS/REGULATOR_FOR_12V_BOSCH_ALTERNATOR__HEAVY_DUTY_VERSION_32mm_slip_ring_4640H.html
Supercharged 2 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) That looks correct but check the voltage - some of the ones supplied by GSF etc are not right and you have to blip the throttle to get the light to go out. If it's just worn bushes then you could get new ones soldered into your existing pack - cost pennies! Edited April 9, 2013 by davidwort
borders16v 0 Posted April 9, 2013 Thanks Supercharged, think I`ll pass on soldering as my solder thingy is deep deep deep somewhere in the garage from hell. lol
G_Dub 0 Posted April 19, 2013 Did you buy a new regulator and get this sorted? I'm gonna try changing the regulator on my alternator that's all. Mine's a 1992 2.0 16v with a Bosch alterntor but I don't think it's the same regulator that you've linked. The one that matches my alternator is this one
