Bs6VR6 10 Posted April 24, 2013 Hey guys, yet another issue was wondering if you could help. Last week car suddenly developed a bad misfire as well as chucking out tons of smoke. Nursed it into Bristol to the garage half way there misfire stopped and so did the smoke??? Anyway they have phoned to say that compression test showed low reading in cylinder 5 and that the injector in five was stuck open. So it's washed the bore which would explains low compression and smoke. They think its ecu fault as they changed I injectors and 5 was still doing it?? Is this possible, I have little faith in them?? Has it ruined the block as it was a rebuilt engine and can't believe that the bore is now shagged as a fault of bore wash? Ben told it can come back once running correctly!! It's had an obd2 conversion so is it possible they have messed something up? Which ecu would I need as I have a few spare at home all end with ag( the corrado one) except one that reads 261 203 968/969 or 021 906 256. I'm assuming its got to be a golf ecu as I've had it converted. Anything else that could cause the Injector to stay open?? Is it likely to have caused permanent damage to block? So fed up with it all now!!!! Regards, max
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 24, 2013 I have heard of an injector driver going bad in VR6 ECUs. Only aware of 2 instances on this forum. It's very rare but providing there are no wiring faults causing #5 to stay open, then it's got to be the ECU. Has it ever been remapped? Take it apart and look for evidence of water ingress. Sometimes the case seal gets disturbed after a remap and doesn't seal properly. Water will do a nice job of killing an ECU! Yeah it's a Golf ECU you need. Try a search as there are several OBD2 convertees on here and the ECU p/n must be mentioned somewhere.
Bs6VR6 10 Posted April 24, 2013 Cheers for the quick reply kev, it's in the garage as we speak they've tried the 'loom' to injector five on other injectors each one was open full and they've checked wiring and that is returning the correct readings so can only be ecu I guess?? Luckily I think i have a spare golf one under the stairs, is it Bosch 0261203968/969 Vw 021 906 256?? Been hoarding a fair few parts since corrado ownership, lol!! So hopefully that'll sort the issue. Just really hoping the low compression reading was down to bore wash and will sort itself once she's firing right? There was fuel leaking out the join in the exhaust so the lambda sensor is shot as well, mega overfueling!!! Edit:- don't worry it is correct ecu so say the garage!!
