Charger belt replacing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I used the search and got a nice diagram of how the belts run but was wondering if anybody has any good tips on changing the belt.

I have the belt but havent tackled it yet. Do I just slacken off the alternator and out with the old and in with the new then re-tension ??

Apart from the airbox is there anything else I need to remove for easier access

Cheers

Mark

Might as well change the pas belt while you are there as that has to come off also...

You don't need to move the alternator just its plastic cover, there is a tensioning damper for the charger and a tensioning wheel on the end of a bracket, be careful when you refit the damper as you will need to put some weight on it and also take care not to damage the rubber bushes!

BTW - dont get the pas belt from GSF! the BOSCH belt they sell with the equivelent part number to the VW one is the wrong size (too small) - I have told them this and they are still selling them

You need 037 145 271 which is 9.5 x 663 (a Gates belt that is only available thru VW, the Gates catalog only lists a 665 which is what I had to use after GSF sold me a 10 x 650mm :x

The above is right for all G60's without air-con.

Interesting about the PAS belt. Ill be aware of that. Although my own seemed to be in good condition so it should be okay.

Apart from the Water pump tension braket being seized it was straighforward enough. And the car seems to a bit more responsive too so it was well worth it.

Thanks for the info 8)
