o-ring on cam position sensor (supposed to sit against body of engine, or inside?)

Recommended Posts

Just bought a new cam position sensor, and I notice the o-ring is all the way back on the sensor, so when inserting it the "o-ring" will seal against the engine "body", and not go inside the hole for the sensor - on the old sensor it seem like it have been sitting inside, does anyone know how it's supposed to sit ?.

I seem to remember it was:-

Sensor > O ring > Plastic ring

That's correct - but on the new one the o-ring have been pulled back onto the round part of the plastic housing, so it will seal against the body - on the old the o-ring seem to sit in the gap between the plastic housing and the plastic ring - so was just wondering what is "correct" :)

IE - Does the o-ring seal against the body itself or should it go inside?.
