ausgolfer 0 Posted August 5, 2013 Hi Guys, What is this thing that I have so skillfully highlighted in red, and do I need it? Really seems to make the engine bay quite messy. PS this isn't my engine bay just one for comparison.
Jim 2 Posted August 5, 2013 It's the carbon canister system - if you do a search, it might explain what it's for :) As for whether you need it.. you don't NEED and can safely delete it... but given that VW fitted, then it's there for a reason. They didn't include it for the fun of it :)
SkyG60 10 Posted August 6, 2013 Hey man, I've been readin up on this system for awhile now, it's safe to delete. It's all the vacuum lines that go to your charcoal evap canister. You can remove it and cap off the vac lines or eliminate by running a straight through vac fitting rather than a T where necessary, there is a mini K&N air filter you will need from one of the lines coming from the fuel tank. You can cut the line to somewhere hidden then attach the filter to that line as a breather. You shouldn't get rid of the line and cap it off at the tank because it's for tank pressure and you could get some vapour locking if it's capped. If I find some clear diagrams, I'll post them up. I'll be doing this on my vr6 and g60. 90% of the corrados out there are over 60,000 miles or 85,000km and the charcoal canister is rendered useless afterwards. It's just dead weight now. Corradokid82 10 Posted August 6, 2013 I'm probably wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere it was for the American market originally but ended up in all cars.

SkyG60 10 Posted August 8, 2013 I would delete and cap everything there and just run the suggested mini K&N from the fuel tank vapour line
