RedTyphoon 0 Posted August 31, 2013 Hi all. Im fed up changing broken gears and rebuilding stock gearbox :) Thinking about the best way to make gears stronger and how to decrease the chances of stress fracture. But not sure where to go or what treatment is the best for used gears, shot peening or cryo treatment? Anyone on here who is done this?
Dox 23 Posted August 31, 2013 Are 02J gearboxes stronger?
RedTyphoon 0 Posted August 31, 2013 AFAIK DRP 02M gearbox is the strongest for turbo applications, but I dont want to go this way.
Dox 23 Posted August 31, 2013 I've got an EJB 02J 5 speed from a V5 Golf, no shift tower £40 collected if its any good to you?
RedTyphoon 0 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) Should be EBJ. Do you know if these from V5 will fit directly onto VR6,R32 with Vr6 clutch assembly? But i think driveshafts axle flanges are bigger. Cheers. Edited August 31, 2013 by RedTyphoon

The flanges are bigger, a single bolt in the middle of the flanges holds them to the splines, I believe the 02A flanges with the similar centre bolt fit? It should bolt up to the flywheel and clutch. You'd probably want to swap the diff to a more suitable one for big power turbo (mk4 has 195 65 15s as standard against 195 50 15 for Corrado)
