Kempy 0 Posted April 17, 2014 Hello Again I'm putting the belts on after getting the head back, that's all sorted now. I'm using my passat haynes ( 9A ) working my way through it's just the timing marks on the bottom pulleys that are confusing/frustrating me. the camshaft pulley is in the right mark pointing up. it's the intermediate pulley and crank pulley marks I need advise on, I know there's a permanent mark on the inside of the crank pulley after the vw/audi marks and there's a white paint mark on the intermediate pulley. Where do these two have to meet? should the crank pulley mark face up or? meet the white mark somewhere? Any help would be awesome thanks, I did try the search but was looking for better pics that what's in the haynes
lesarcsneil 0 Posted April 19, 2014 Hi, There is a good guide over on Club GTi: http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?186796-How-to-setup-static-timing-Useful-after-major-engine-work The intermediate pulley drives the oil pump so orientation isn't critical. There is also another timing mark on the flywheel that lines up with a mark inside the gearbox bellhousing at TDC. There is a plastic bung on top of the bellhousing that you can remove to see this.
