Dave W 0 Posted May 25, 2014 I used power steering pump off a polo in breakers. It is identical in shape to my seized one from corrado. My steering seems awful heavy for power steering. Does anyone know if these pumps run different pressures, polo one had much bigger pulley than corrado one. I fitted corrado pulley on pump.
vw rule 19 Posted May 25, 2014 Hello there, not too sure on this one but have found some info on the forum. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=60319 I'm not saying it is but the secondhand pump you've fitted could be warn. The Corrado has wider wheels / tyres than the Polo, so the smaller puller will help the pump to spin faster on the Corrado to give more assistance, and larger puller on the Polo will make the pump spin slightly slower as it doesn't need as much assistance. Regarding a difference in pressure I don't know, are there any part numbers on the two pumps ? Si
Dave W 0 Posted May 25, 2014 There are numbers and stuff on polo pump but nowt decipherable on old pump. I will have to have a look and right them down. Sure something aint right. Should be able to turn wheels at stand with one hand ???.
vw rule 19 Posted May 25, 2014 Yeah you should be able to turn the steering wheel with one hand when the car is parked and engine running. Is the power steering belt on tight enough, plus how did the Polo pump feel when you spun the pulley flange by hand, did it feel tight or notchy or anything ?? vw rule 19 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) I've had a look around on line and from what I can see, the part number I think for the MK4 Polo is 6N0-422-155E and has 72 Bar which must be the pressure rating I guess. Have a look tomorrow and see if that matches the one on your car now. EDIT: Looks like the Corrado VR6 part number is 1H0-422-155 or 6N0-145-157 Looks like the Corrado pump may have a max pressure rating of around 90 BAR. Hope this helps Si Edited May 25, 2014 by vw rule

Dave W 0 Posted May 26, 2014 Thanks for all the info. 72 bar is on the pump. Pump seemed ok before I fitted it, belts all ok.I will have a chat with my very helpful local VW parts guy. See if he can shed any further light on pressures. Cant get near it this week for work. Can I get back to you about vr pump, cheers.
