fendervg 32 Posted June 29, 2014 Just wondering if anyone knows how to tell if an O2 sensor needs replacing? How long are they supposed to last? Thanks.
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted June 29, 2014 Vcds logging will tell you.
fendervg 32 Posted June 29, 2014 Ok - nothing wrong with mine so. What about the MAF?
swiftkid 1 Posted June 29, 2014 In my experience lambdas very rarely go wrong with the vr6, maf's on the other hand go all the time and they make lambdas throw up a code. I'd always check the maf us working before looking at the lambda sensor
fendervg 32 Posted June 29, 2014 Ok - thanks. What's the best way of testing the MAF?
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted June 29, 2014 Unplug it with the engine running, if it's OK the engine will run like a bag of nails. If no change, then it's likely dead. What are your symptoms?
fendervg 32 Posted June 29, 2014 Power is down and sometimes it stalls when coming to a stop, and hunting idle as well intermittently.
swiftkid 1 Posted June 29, 2014 Sounds suspiciously like maf to me, those things are sneaky little gits! Try to put the blame on lambdas!
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted June 29, 2014 I agree with SwiftKid. They are obsolete now but this thread comes up a dozen or so times a month. Have a quick look back through the recent threads and you'll find the answer on how somebody solved their problems...
fendervg 32 Posted June 30, 2014 Cheer for that - I have an old MAF that I will swap in and test and see what the results are. At the moment there is practically no difference in engine behaviour when the MAF is unplugged.
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted June 30, 2014 You can clean them up with electrical contact cleaner for potential short term fix.
