Head gasket gone?

Recommended Posts

I love my corrado vr6 but am not mechanically minded unfortunately!! Took it to a garage this morning as the idle hasn't been sounding great and then when I started it a couple of days ago, itsounded very lumpy and felt 'juddery'.

The guy came out and said the head had gone, he'd done a block test and it was a kind of blue/green colour. I know the test should be blue and if it goes yellow that means the head gasket is leaking but as this was a bit inbetween, I'm a bit confused and don't want to be made a mug of because I don't fully understand!

I have got a bit of a coolant leak but I'm not chugging through coolant. I only really drive the car at weekends however. Just after a bit of guidance please!

Thanks

Do the coolant pipes pressurize after a drive? That was the main sign my gasket had gone, went on for ages before getting any of the other symptoms.

Coolant was leaking into a piston while car was not being used, then in the morning it would idle quite rough until the cylinder was clear of water.

Just had my gasket skimmed there. Coolant system was pressurising and I was loosing all my coolant so engine was overheating. Didn't want to leave it much longer or do any more damage by driving it so took it to a vw specialist that was recommended on here and had it all checked out. Now it has been skimmed and re fitted and seems fine :)
