p0l1wrath 10 Posted January 4, 2015 Today i installed a new bosche fuel pump after the car wouldnt start the other day (almost 100% it was either down to pump or relay (changed the relay first, works fine)) Swapped all the bits and bobs around from the old pump to the new, fitted it and started it up! Took a while for it to start but i guess thats because it had to pressurise the lines again. Idled for about 2 minutes (sounded good), but drove it 20 metres and it cut out (everytime i gave it a poke on the throttle, the revs dipped) Took the pump out, checked over it all seems fine to me. tl;dr issues with new bosche fuel pump, have i missed anything silly...? Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted January 4, 2015 What's the wiring like? Poor earth could limit the power available to the pump.
p0l1wrath 10 Posted January 4, 2015 The old one worked, i just suspected it was on its way out, i think its either the part or something i have done wrong in installation?
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted January 4, 2015 Are the pipes all on nice and tight? Maybe you're getting air being drawn in.
vag 10 Posted January 4, 2015 You haven't got the pipes on the wrong way round have you? blue is return
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted January 4, 2015 It wouldn't run at all then?
p0l1wrath 10 Posted January 4, 2015 Was all tight, had the pipes on the right way, and it ran, then I tried to take it for a test drive, it conked out and then would only start but idle really lumpy, if I touched the peddle it cut out
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted January 4, 2015 It may be purely coincidental that you have developed a vacuum leak at the same time. Those symptoms are classic spilt vacuum hose!
p0l1wrath 10 Posted January 4, 2015 Fuel tank vacuum hose??
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted January 4, 2015 No sorry, engine vacuum hose. Look around the engine for splits in any rubber hoses. They may be small or closed up so get in there and move the pipes about. On my 12v, I found a pipe under the air intake pipe that had rubbed and melted against the block.
p0l1wrath 10 Posted January 4, 2015 What the one from rocker to intake elbow?
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted January 4, 2015 I can't remember exactly mate. It was 5 or 6 years ago and I've now got a 24v which has significantly fewer vacuum pipes. Look at every rubber pipe you can find and Check carefully.
