Drucey 10 Posted January 24, 2015 Going to give my car a service what's people saying is the right engine oil to use? Synthetic or semisynthetic? Car has done 130,000 but has had a full head rebuild not many miles back. (If the matters) :) thank you.
Jim 2 Posted January 24, 2015 Get some Quantum Silver from your local VW or TPS. It's not very expensive and is perfect for a 1.8 16v motor :)
Drucey 10 Posted January 24, 2015 Wicked thank m8, I'll do that. Was running semisynthetic before, just wanted to make sure it was right?
MZpog 10 Posted January 26, 2015 I buy Halfords 10/40 semi in bulk (a years supply) when its on offer. It was recently £12 x 4L (perfect for a change)and the offer may still be on. Cheap as chips and means I don't mind dropping the oil every 4000 miles.
davidwort 0 Posted January 26, 2015 Pretty much any 10/40 semi synthetic is fine, I think most 16v's use a bit of oil so topping up with a fully synthetic can be a bit expensive if you buy a litre every month or two. The only oil to really avoid is very light modern petrol engine oils, just too thin for the 16v tolerances.
