Ray1965 10 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) The cables as far as a know are normal. Seen them on plenty of other cars and mine is the same. Correct me if i am wrong, think there are the hand brake cables. Edited February 7, 2015 by Ray1965
seanl82 23 Posted February 7, 2015 Rear speakers accessed by removing parcel shelf supports. You should be able to see the proper wiring if its not been used by checking down the rear turret carpets. Centre bit on the dash is not a speaker, just a blank. Outer two are removed by levering up at the front corner nearest the door. The covers just clip in. Wooden strip on seat just pushes up into a recess. Heater dials removed by pulling the face of it off, and its secured by four corner screws. Cables under the car are handbrake cables, that do stick down a bit, and the blue one and those next to it are fuel lines. Look a little low to me. The bit on the gearstick surround should have a Karmann sticker on it.

Wayne2015 10 Posted February 7, 2015 Ref car stalling... Did a search on here, GLUP! Its a common problem for VR6s????!!!! *the stalling at low idle speed eg approaching junction* And there is no definitive solution :( :( :( With the search I did, When car is at garage on Friday (oil / filter / coil overseas), Will ask garage to look at following: 1. Clean ISV 2. Throttle body 3. All intake pipes 4. Crank sensor 5. Coil pack 6. MAF 7. Ignition lead 8. Finally reset ECU Fingers crossed then!
Hairyarse 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Didn't know they had a coming/leaving home option so no idea!! lol Storm badge is there of course for Storm versions. I think all others have a Karmann badge there. Ref the stalling issue, make sure you don't get in an open cheque book situation with the garage, you could spend an awful lot of money with them trying to trace a fault otherwise. Is there anyone local on here that can lend a hand just to give your car a quick once-over? I would if I was close. There's some basic checks that could be done and shown to you without having to spend a fortune.

The local VW specialist charges £40/hr. So I think it wise just to limit to that for looking into the stalling issue.
Hairyarse 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Oh brilliant, that's decent of him ;) £40 an hour is a very fair rate but it can still ramp up quickly ;)
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Well Its frosty outside Temp 2degrees But My car is dirty and with rusty spots I know its USELESS and waste of time trying to de-rust and wax at these ridiculous temps, But what the heck - something better than nothing! De-rusting:
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Ok De-rusting worked! ...10% of its cleaning power :( LOL As expected!
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Ok If thats the case, Will leave out the waxing and use a quick detailer instead. Will wait a little warmer later in the day for that then ...
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Oh brilliant, that's decent of him ;) £40 an hour is a very fair rate but it can still ramp up quickly ;) Yes The specialist is also doing this Friday for me: 1. Oil / Filter 2. Increase height of coilovers 3. So might as well a quick check on the stalling Then subject to work and with a huge credit limit on my credit card: 1. Book into Stealth Racing for Timing Chain/water pump/clutch 2. And the dreaded "anything else that needs replacing/fix/repair/break etc" - eeeeek! Thereafter: To local bodyshop for: 1. Quick spot de-rusting and spot paint-respray Tis the plan But may not happen or i get sacked at work or hit by a bus whichever comes 1st or sods law all at once! Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Well FAR too COLD for full detail And wax will NEVER cure in this temp (even with sun out)! So QUICK detail:

Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Oh And after re-assurances from seller that there are no leaks on car and deffo NOT from sunroof nor boot - i know these are NOTORIOUS issues/rust for old cars...i found: YES! After one car wash - the back of sun roof LEAKS! Inside wet from handbrake to rear ash tray! Now unless the seller never drove in wet and always park in garage, i am leaving me options open whether to return the car ... Will give the seller benefit of doubt But if i find major leak in boot as well then deffo considering the option! GRRRRRRR
Tobz_mw 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Looking good wayne! What sort of number plates have you got they look good! Was looking at getting some new ones for mine as there looking abit old. Also it's a shame the guy you bought it from couldn't have been more honest about the car with you. Just proves what some people are like just to get a few extra quid in there pocket! Atleast your managing to get on top of it all. Just a shame to keep finding more problems!

Plate wise - no idea! Came with car! But they are embossed! Not even sure they legal???!!! So stayed behind a police van with camera today - just in case he decides to pull me over! Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Look like legal pressed plates. Available from Dubmeister I believe. Cheers Sean! But don't they also need name of supplier stamped on plates?
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Just did a quick Google on plates. It "seems" the law (include MOT): Requires 2001 format plates PLUS BS standard lettering PLUS supplier details BUT Classic cars pre-1973 exempt! And this is the grey area - what about cars made between 1973-2001??? Original plates maybe OK in pre-2001 format, But I guess plates made from 2001 will have to be in new format. So how does one/Police know if plates original?
Tobz_mw 10 Posted February 8, 2015 Just looked on DVLA website guys! Aslong as your plates are correct font, spacing and letter sizing and are stamped on the bottom with a manufacturer watermark then it is fine! Also must be reflective witch makes sense. https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/rules-number-plates Will have to get on ebay and order some! So nothing to worry about with yours wayne haha! Hairyarse 10 Posted February 9, 2015 Ref the leak, check the drains are working from the sunroof, the tubes could be blocked. Pour a little water in to the sunroof tray with the roof open to check it drains properly. The tubes can get blocked and the seal is just a weather seal, not mean to be fully waterproof.
