Indicator Fault... STILL NEED HELP!!!

I noticed tonite on the run home that when i indicate right nothing happens... no click - no dashlight flash no falshing bulbs front side or rear...

 

Any ideas - the left works fine and when using the hazard button the left only works...

 

Would this be a dodgy stalk? Surely not a fuse as this would affect both sides? Dodgy relay?

 

Any one had the same problem?

check that the fuses are all OK and that the relay is seated properly... 8)

First stop was fuse and pushed all relays in - but all seemed to b in ok!?!?

 

Which is the relay for indicators? mite jus clean pins...

oh n cheers storm! i swapped from ford to vw and bought meself a high mileage simple 1800 valver only to hav loads of lil faults and noticed that seems to be the trend on the board... guess its jus old cars!

 

Ach well with a lil time - money and tlc she will be a proper gem! :mrgreen:

Pain in the arse.

 

checked fuse and relays and both seem fine! I am struggling to figure this out logical

 

This is what happens when i....

 

Indicate left - dashboard turning signal flashes, and all 3 exterior lights flash (and obviously relay click).

Indicate right - No dashboard light or any of exterior lights and no relay click.

Depress Hazard Button - Left side works as per indicating but nothing on the right.

 

My conclusion (please someone point out im wrong... please)

 

NOT stalk cos when i use hazard button the right side doesnt work.

NOT Relay as left side uses same one?

NOT Fuse as left side uses same one?

NOT bulbs cos all 3 would have blown at same time and wudnt the dashboard turning signal still work when indicating right?

 

So it must be wiring from relay/fusebox to lights? or switches?

 

F**kin C! :mad:

 

PLEASE HELP?

Well... :shock:

It can only be the harness! :roll:

Check the relay output wires for the right side indicators... :idea:

SoundsAlarming, Why the hazard switch? That still makes the left ones work?

 

kongo127, how do i check them? Where?

 

I do not know alot hence all the questions!

Where? :|

Under the dashboard there is a removable cover which gives you access to the fuses and relays.

On the bottom of that cover there is a table with all the information you need.

Get a multimeter and turn on the indicator switch to measure the relays input / output. :idea:

The Bentley manual would help you alot! 8)

Where can i get this manual? How much? cheers for all the help guys...

 

and btw i HAVE checked fuses and relays as much as i know the fuse works - can hear it click and the left side works and the fuse i swapped over for new one and is fine so left still works... just need a multimeter to check them all now!

you can get the manual from amazon or VW books.....but be warned its well over £60............or you could try e-bay for copies of manual (on CD)as i hear they sometimes appear there :wink: :wink: :wink:

The fault wont be the relay as this is switched by a common signal which is then distributed to either left or right by the stalk.

 

It wont be the fuses because theres a common fuse for both sides.

 

Its not the stalk because the hazard switch outputs do not go through it but the hazard switch also wont flash the left side.

 

Which leaves either the hazard switch or the connections to it.

 

If you have the hand to eye cordination of a brain surgen you could try to strip and clean the switch, if not get a new one

SoundsAlarming, Thats the same conclusion i came to and tried to point out... confusing in me head let alone put into words! and like the brain surgeon comment... hand eye co-ordination it good... patience... hmmm!

 

Scott, I was thats why i asked about the hazard switch! What confused me was that the right side doesnt work at all... and not jus when using hazards - because i dont know how they are all wired up is why i asked... thanks all for the help! :D

GOOD NEWS!!!

 

I sorted my indicator problem... loose connection again... made worse by the height i had the steering wheel at! :lol:

(had cowling off and when i fiddled around with multiplug it worked intermittently - albeit very random then i dropped steering wheel to have a closer look and all worked fine!)

 

At same time... i sorted starting problem... was the multiplug again (maybe something i did when changing ignition switch!) - loose connection... woohoo! :)

 

2 birds with one stone and all that !!!
