daniboy1_2_3 0 Posted September 2, 2015 Hi, I'm gathering parts to upgrade the standard brakes on my Corrado vr6. I've got a pair of 288mm front calipers to go on and I've just been chatting to C&R enterprises who do a lot of conversions and sell brake upgrade kits. I'm considering purchasing this kit; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110749814466?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D110749814466%26_rdc%3D1 Is it worth upgrading the rear calipers to mk4 golf versions? My standard calipers appear to be working on and I'll be rebuilding them anyway before fitting everything. Cheers.
Chuggs1 10 Posted September 2, 2015 If you don't intend doing the rears at all ever then its not worth buying the whole kit - C&R will do the front only but they are about £77 just for fronts - so if you are thinking of doing rears then the full kit works out great value

Rears won't give you any better braking, they will just stop the hand brake seizing on.
daniboy1_2_3 0 Posted September 2, 2015 (edited) I wasn't very clear in my first post. What I mean is seeing as though I'm going to rebuild the rear calipers (assuming all the parts are available) is there any point in upgrading to the mk4 golf ones. I don't imagine a set of refurbished standard calipers are going to sieze up on me any time soon?. I'm aware that the only benefit is the handbrake mechanism is enclosed and less prone to siezing on the mk4 golf. fendervg 32 Posted September 2, 2015 I think the problem is that the handbrake cable mechanism on the MkII calipers (which were the original ones fitted to the C) are a flawed design (it's external to the body of the caliper from what I recall), which will inevitably seize - and that the MkIV calipers resolve this. They are also made out of a different alloy. So the later model will give you more piece of mind in the long run but it may be chaeaper to refurbish your existing ones.
