New alternator doesn't seem right!!

Recommended Posts

I've just collected a new 120A bosch alternator 028 903 018 cx 03 from TPS today, thinking I'd treat the corrado.

Unfortunately it seems the shaft can move backwards about 4mm which causes the fan blades inside it to rattle on something inside!!!

Surely that can't be right, or is it that when the pulley and belt are on it keeps it forward.

One step forward, two steps back....

My old one doesn't do this, what do you think? 4c4fb1698ffedd7f432357ea9ade69a5.jpgbc313c7b1bbbe46d71d0fd4e7b7927f0.jpg

I took it to TPS who said they would return it, but couldn't promise me getting another!! So they gave me some money back and i took it to an Alternator Specialist ( CHAPMANS in Sheffield 0114 272 4541 )

Result, it turns out to be some guide sleeve on the main shaft that was too far out. He tightened the new pulley onto the shaft, which moved it into the correct seating position and all spins perfectly.

Total repair cost £0, the knowledge and helpfulness of that man, PRICELESS.
