Seized oil re-fill bolt Gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hi.

My oil refill bolt on my Gearbox is totally seized..

It cant be moved and I have tried everything, even trying to weld a bolt to it..

Its rounded now and looks absolty ****.

What can I do?

A bolt extractor? For 17mm? But where to find that..

Im all out of ideas.

Hmmm. If it has a speedo cable going to it or a flywheel inspection hole you can refill through there. For the bolt, it could get messy. I used a huge allen key and a spanner to get mine out. I presume you tried heating it and penetrating oil? You might have to drill it then and use a stud or scre extractor with a reverse thread. I'm sure there'll be other ideas on here.

The flywheel isn't inside the gearbox, so I would start filling it through there, it'll bugger the clutch

Drain it out of the bottom, refill through the shift tower hole with the specified amount of oil.

Otherwise its heat on the alloy casing after making something to turn the remains of the filler plug.

Alloy expands greater than steel - a can of freeze spray for the bolt after the heating of the casing may also help get the plug out.
