GrizzlyBear 11 Posted February 10, 2017 Hi Nick if you take a look at the page i sent you on my build thread there are a few pics where you can see the inside of my air box. you will see 2, i think, mental panels on the inside of the air box & can see where the original lining has disintegrated allowing you to then see the holes in said metal plate IIRC there is one each side, IE left & right it is the moving part/panel inside the air box that provides the mix between hot or cold air when you move the dial on the heater controls basically inside the big black box bit you have to wriggle out from the very centre of the console once the dash is out & you have removed the small metal bracket from by the gear lever Thanks for clearing it up mate, just want to make sure it's all done right ;) I'll let you know how I get on. delfinis38 1 Posted February 10, 2017 Did you change your ignition switch? It is certainly easier at this stage and genuine vw aren't too expensive Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk good idea.. vw £38 or cheap ebay for a tenner.... personally i'd use the correct vw part for this. PS putting it back in is much less stressful lol

As for taking it apart, it's the biggest job I've ever done on a car, I have very little experience and health issues but with that said I managed to get it out in an afternoon with no problems. Just have some good tools, label and bag everything and follow the guide and it will go fine. I have yet to put it all back though so will update when that happens. But overall I'm pleased I manged to get the bugger out, I did it on my own but having a mate would probably speed up the process and make things easier. VR-Sixy 0 Posted February 10, 2017 ha ha ha!!! you poor soul. i am sure the garage will take care, well, hope they do ;) i think it is less daunting when you do it yourself lol I've been taking Senor Corrado to the same garage that i've used since i started driving, so they know him well, and they have done this once before - back in 2006. I just didn't realise how involved it was..... and i'm still horrified!! LOLZ!
Jim 2 Posted February 10, 2017 I've said it before.. if I can do a heater matrix by myself, anyone can. I'm a clueless pillock when it comes to DIY work and aside from it being daunting, and time consuming it was a very straightforward process. I'd seriously consider doing it yourself.
