daves16v 1 Posted July 13, 2004 Where is the thermostat on a 9A engine? Is it easy to replace? Don't need to yet but am interested for future reference. Ta DB
Henny 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Pretty certain it's in the same place as the rest of VW's 4 cylinder engines... In the plastic lower fitting on the waterpump itself...
daves16v 1 Posted July 13, 2004 I'm gonna sound dumb now.......where is the waterpump?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 13, 2004 Next to the PAS/Water pump pulley. You'll see a plastic elbow and a few hoses. remove the hoses, remove the 2 10mm bolts, prize off the plastic elbow, replace O ring, replace stat, refit it all, refill with coolant. Henny 0 Posted July 13, 2004 I'd also advise replacing the plastic housing as they get brittle with age and will almost certainly crack as you tighten it back up again... for the £5 they cost, it's not worth the hassle! ;) :D
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 13, 2004 Oh and if the Corrado 16V is anything like the Golf 16V, you might have to remove the PAS pump bracket to get to the water pump :x

Perhaps you should expand on this a little and add it to the 'How to' website. Thanks for the info chaps.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 16, 2004 Or perhaps you could as it's been many a year since I've done a 16V water pump and stat
daves16v 1 Posted July 16, 2004 It doesn't need changing yet but when I do I'll make notes and take pics.
