Oil Prensence after G60 Charger rebuild....Am I worrying over nothing??

Recommended Posts

I had my charger rebuilt and have covered around 700 miles now, around 200 miles in I was under the car and noticed oil present on the charger casing, which looked to be coming from the main shaft. I have cleaned it a couple of times and it just seems to be seeping from somewhere.

I have today decided to take the boost pipe off and have found the presence of oil in the charger, is this normal? As well as oil between the charger casing and some in the plastic black outlet.

Its not much at all but I don't know whether this is normal

The oil inside the actual charger may be normal but the oil leaking out from the two charger half's certainly isn't..

The only two reasons to have excessive oil in your charger (which this is by the looks of the pictures having only done 700 miles) is that you have a worn engine with blow-by issues and it's collecting via the boost return, or you have an oil seal gone inside the charger. Either way it's not normal.

I just wanted to clarify I was talking about a slight weeping of oil between the 2 halves of my charger and not about the amount of oil in the charger.

The oil weeping between the casings could be indicative of oil inside the charger or that there is an external leak from the main shaft outer seal and oil is just gathering down there.
