Aircon compressor pistons seized

Recommended Posts

I had a sanden aircon compressor sitting in the garage for ages as it had seized up. Took it apart and theres some beautiful engineering there. Problem is with the pistons that are extremely stiff on both of the ball joints. These are metal in metal but theres no scraping or corrosion. I've sprayed them all with wd40 and gt85 and swivelled them a bit to work it in but they're still stiff. Any suggestions?

no its a car aircon compressor.

Just had them in the ultrasonic cleaner which didnt do much.  Will probably soak in ATF for a few days and see if that works.  Can quite see why they would be so stiff as the ball surface is smooth (as you can see in the pics) and there's no evidence of corrosion at all..

oh, i just presumed it was a garage compressor for some reason. It seems very elaborate in design.
