Brake feel

Just had new brakes fitted all round on the Storm & now the pedal feels really soft with a long travel, is that normal in a Corrado (as suggested by the mechanic)? I've only ever driven 2 Corrado's but that doesnt seem to have been my experience.

200 miles of use usually returns a firm pedal, they’ll never be as good as a modern car, but with a firm push they do scrub off speed ok.

 

On the bright side no one should ever run into the back of you lol

Similar experience recently. Had 288s fitted and braided all round and the pedal travel was a bit longer than before, which was not as good as my modern car so did make it feel odd. It has firmed back up and as Dox says c200 miles is about right - that's all I have really done since having the work done.

One test you could do is put you foot on the brake pedal firm and make sure it doesn't sink to the floor.

Same for me. When I changed my fronts to 288s, they initially felt terrible, and I wasn’t impressed at all. But they did dial themselves in after a while.

Worth double checking that the abs pump was bled as well as there is a bleed nipple on there.

Would recommend a full bleed of all callipers, master and ABS pump. 288s won't really give a noticable difference in feel, but you will have increased braking power once you press hard.

The problem with a lot of the older cars is that the mechanical advantage of the pedal at the master cylinder/servo is limited by design - so it will never feel as sharp as a newer car.

Other things to check are the seals on the servo, any vacuum leaks, and most importantly to replace the brake master (which is now sadly unobtanium for the RHD VR6, best bet is to get Past Parts to rebuild one) as when the internal seals start weeping they won't hold pressure the same way, even if the leak is not visible.
