K Simmonds 10 Posted August 15, 2023 I haven't been active on here for some time as my choice of cars changed a little and I put my LHD G60 Corrado through a hedge... I am reluctanatly breaking my 1989 Corrado G60 which started it's life in holland so is LHD, the the first couple of year's of UK cars with the G60 motor were left hookers anyway. I stuffed it through a hedge a couple of years ago requiring a a complete new front end. That's not too much of a problem, however the offside cill sustained some pretty serious damage which has just about effected the floor pan making a proper repair extreamly time consuming. Please see the breaking section for what avaiable and rough prices. The car is Tornado Red/pink and is currently on around 116,000 Kiometers, I retained the orginal clocks, as I was planning keeping the car for life. Since I purchaased the Corrado 11 years ago a great deal has changed. After owning a 1990 3B 390bhp S2 Coupe which met a sticky end in 2016 I now have a 1995 Audi RS2 with a 380bhp K26/7 MTM conversion done from new in Germany under warrenty from Audi. I'm only the second owner and the car has done 102,000 miles with a Full Audi service history stapped up in the book up until 97,000. It's very sraight and solid, however it's reached the time in it's life where it requires proventative resoration which is not going to be cheap despite being a mechanic myself and doing all the work. I also have a 2.8 V6 C4 (1991) Avant quattro, this is 177 bhp with buckets of torque and is my daily driver, this super comfortable and practical, they're a bit like driving a living room. Now here's where things get interesting and VW related, I have a solid but a litle tatty looking 1989 Audi 80 quattro, as it's gutted the underpowered 2.0 short stroke engine actually moves's it along quite well but as the G60 motor is a very easy fit (loads of space) in a B3 80 engine bay... So I'm planning to install the G60 engine into my Audi 80, which as it's stripped out weighs very little (1000kg max) and I feel will make a fun car as well being something a little different. I changed the oil in my G60 every couple of thousand miles and it had it's charger rebuit by JMR not long before I smashed it up so I know it's good reliable motor. It will be left the stock 160 bhp as I feel the charger is stressed enough as it is, that said I do have and ECU and pully that up's the output to 220bhp in case I'm feeling brave. There is also the possibility of useing the Audi's orginal 2.0 bottom end, it's the 3A short stroke engine and in very good order, though it probably make more sense to leave the engine alone. Finally I have a rust free, never welded 1992 MK2 Golf 8V GTI with a full G60 conversion done using a german doner car so it's got all the correct pipe work etc, the engine bay is actually quite different to a G60 Corrado. As I had a MK2 as my first car I'd like to keep it after selling my 1988 16V example, though I'll have little need for it so it'll probably get sold. Would there be any interest in a G60 powered Audi 80 quattro project? if so I'll start a thread
K Simmonds 10 Posted August 15, 2023 Couple of photos as I know everyone likes some pictures... The engine bay is the current K-Jet 2.0 motor in my Audi 80, I reckon a G60 will fit there easily. Then a bit of a pic of my RS2 and workshop.Sent from my SM-A115F using Tapatalk

Love the glimpse under the hood with the K-Jet 2.0 motor in your Audi 80! 👀 The potential for a G60 sounds exciting. Your RS2 looks stunning, and that workshop must be a dreamland for car enthusiasts. youtubevanced

Same basic block as a G60 so quite an easy fit, just got to sus out clutch options as I want retain the G60 flywheel, one can get custom clutches made for surprisingly little, that's if I can't work something out myself. My RS2 is really very tidy and straight but is actually awaiting a full respray and mechanical restoration as the paint isn't perfect and running 380bhp for 100K miles takes a bit of a toll on the drive train. I haven't got the inclination to spend 100's of of hours sanding at the moment so the 80 project is something fun I can get on with whilst breaking my Corrado... I also have 1992 runout model MK2 Golf with a G60 conversion using the correct parts from a German doner car as opposed to cobbled together with Corrado parts, this doesn't need much doing to it other than fitting the fuel pumps from my Corrado as the one's on there are both dead from being stood for too long. And yes, I'm very lucky to have that workshop, I'm a mechanic so do all my own work which saves a fortune plus I know stuff is done right, though it does take some of the joy out of working on my own cars. There's a saying in the trade "this job ruins a good hobby" but I'm taking some time off working at classic car specialist I normally work for to do my own stuff.🙂
