BMC CDA: best price?

Recommended Posts

I've seen lots at around the £180/£185 mark, inc p&p and VAT. Fair enough.

Just in case I'm missing out, does anyone know of anywhere I can get one cheaper?

By the way, I've seen the threads on how to remove a carbon cannister, but what is a carbon cannister?! What does it do (and therefore what won't happen if you remove it?!)

Cheers.

the carbon cannister is just that, a plastic cylinder filled with an active charcoal powder... The crank case breather and fuel tank breather are routed through it to filter any nasties out (apparently) and then back into the inlet to burn off the waste gasses... :|

Great when new, but they've a definate life span before the charcoal becomes non-active and I've NEVER heard of one being replaced... :| Bin it.. it was only really added to get the Corrado into America and through their wonderful emission laws anyway...

On a VR you need to keep a valve else your ECU will throw an error code... :|

Henny means the blue frequency valve under the MAF. It's clipped to the suspension turret. When disconnected, the ECU codes it as faulty.

The charcoal in the canister removes hydrocarbons present in petrol vapours.

What you can do is remove the CC and just connect the clear hose to the frequency valve but your hydrocarbons will go through the roof on MOT day, so unplug it temporarily when the MOT is due.

The BMC CDA is awesome. I'm not a fan of induction noise as you all know, but the noise thing makes I could live with. It sounds absolutely fantastic. Not K&N 57i loud, but a more subdued growl that isn't intrusive.

So if I leave the carbon cannister where it is - just for now - and just fit the BMC in place of the standard airbox/filter, I don't have to worry about valves or anything, then?

(I've seen the threads on cc removeal but I'm not under any illusions about my own abilities - reckon I'll save that upgrade until i'm a bit more confident!)

The CDA needs to go through the CC hole, so yes you will either need to remove it completely or relocate it. You can still leave it under the inner wing but just away from the hole. The hoses will need extending though.

Bloody VW, why didn't they think of us CAI / CDA users and put an extra hole in the wing ????

Having said that, the normal method of sucking air in behind the light is more effective than people give it credit for, providing it's all sealed up properly. The amount of bugs, hay, twigs and water in my airbox is proof loads of cold air is getting in.

Bit of an obscure post resurrection but got mine for £163 delivered from Regal Motorsport (see eBay). If you rinf them up they'll knock a fiver off for non-eBay purchases. Yet to fit it but hoping it's as good as everyone says!
