CIPO 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Looking to get a few more horses out of my VR for not much money. I presume that i'm looking at an exhaust and performance air filter. Any suggestions? Has anybody done it and what BHP increase do you get? Post decapped -- jimsG60
jedi-knight83 0 Posted August 26, 2004 dont write in caps lock please! sounds like your shouting! exuast and filter will cost about £400 roughly and would probably get you 5-10bhp max. AMD remap is supposed to be about 10-12 bhp and is £400 is Throtle body is also about £400 but not sure of the gains Schrick will give power and torque increase but there £1500 new. £800 ish on ebay when they become available on there which isnt very often
Jim 2 Posted August 26, 2004 Alas the VR6 is not the kind of car that has horsepower just hidden away ready to be unleashed. I'd say to get that kind of power increase, the exhaust and filter as you said might help and a rechip with someone like AmD will get you close.. but probably won't be enough to unleash 20BHP. LicklePaulie 0 Posted August 26, 2004 Was told that Schrick 268 cams (with chip) will approach these gains... but not absolutely sure???
jedi-knight83 0 Posted August 26, 2004 looking at £800 + for the 2 mods though!
Neocorrado 0 Posted August 26, 2004 I think the 268 cams with chip, turn 2 CAI, headers, cat back exause system should do the trick :)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 26, 2004 Yeah 268 cams are good for 15 bhp according to Stealth. A remap and an free-flow exhaust should comfortably take you up to 20. Just depends how healthy the engine is to begin with. Some standard VRs already deliver way over 200 bhp and others barely make the stock 190. As Jim says, the VR is the most expensive Corrado engine to get more power from, purely because the parts are so expensive and unless you go forced induction, the differences aren't night and day either, but the normally aspirated mods do make it nicer to drive. Neocorrado 0 Posted August 26, 2004 what about lighten pulleys and flywheel, do you get alot of good out of that ?
dr_mat 0 Posted August 26, 2004 You might release another 2 bhp in 1st gear with a heavily lightened flywheel, but you get less benefit in 5th... The benefit of a lightened flywheel seems to be more about responsiveness of the engine than actual power output. The pulleys are a better trick - underdriving the aux belt can save you 3-4 bhp from what I've read. What this does to your power steering, battery charging and water pump I don't know....! Neocorrado 0 Posted August 26, 2004 dr_mat, Thanks i'll check it out, you made a good point about the battery and all the other thing..
crazymarcel 0 Posted August 26, 2004 MY VR puts out 206bhp from just a BMC airfilter, magnex and superchip, but then again i dont know how much bhp it had before i done them things though.
Henny 0 Posted August 26, 2004 You might release another 2 bhp in 1st gear with a heavily lightened flywheel, but you get less benefit in 5th... True, your BHP figure's won't change much, if at all, but your in gear acceleration will be radically changed.... 8) We used to lighten Beetle flywheels when I worked at a Beetle specialists and we could easily knock a second or two of the 0-60 times with just this mod after fitting some other mods to the engine... 8) (flywheel mod performance change AFTER other mods! ;) )
