'Insurance Approved Body Repair Specialists'

Recommended Posts

My Mums (Mint) Mystic Blue Mk3 Golf got ran into a couple of weeks ago while stationary, the other parties insurance arranged repair at one of there 'approved' bodyshops...

She had the car delivered back to where she works at lunchtime and I've just had a look at it and I think I prefered it with the huge dent in the tailgate

The work is awful and its clearly visible it has had an accident and been repaired, the boot really needs slamming to shut it (she even noticed this and they fobbed her off) the panels are out of allignment, and the rear lights stick out too far, bits that should have been painted havn't and the ones that have show imperfections in the paint finish... The tailgate has not been replaced (she was hit fairly high up) and you can still see its twisted around the lock bar and the bumper that was only scratched and looked like it only needed painting has been replaced but with what looks like either the wrong one or a pattern part, visible lines where is moulded and the grey bit at the bottom that should be a seperate part isn't and you can see where its been masked off (not even straight)and painted...

I can't beleive they let it out the place like that, it really is awful! - thing is what to do now, The job is sooo bad that I don't think I want her to take it back to them as they obviously have some sight problems, I take it she can request it to be fixed elsewhere as the accident was not in anyway her fault... Are VW approved places worth going to?? there is one but its about 50 miles away from us...

aaargh, don't get me started on this! Same thing happened to my 'insurance approved ' repairs. Get it done repeatedly until it's done properly! Had no end of trouble getting mine done properly by NUD. The trouble is the margins are so tight and the repairers under so much pressure to get the job done at minimal cost and labour rates, the job quality gets cut to the bone. To be insurance approved means willing to do the work at low labour rates that won't hurt the insurance company too much = corners get cut.

Off the record quote from last Bodyshop Manager I had trouble with.... 'Basically mate, we do a quick job, vac it inside and give it a quick wash....little old lady / joe public come to pick car up and 9 times out of 10 are pleased to get car back lovely and clean. If someone who knows what to look for comes along and finds faults we get on the phone to insurers and they say 'fair enough, do it properly this time!'

My C seems to have been done pretty well so far, but I need to inspect it with a magnifying glass before I cough up the excess. Not gonna be happy unless it's perfect.

They do seem like decent guys though and from the amount of pestering I've given them, I think they've done a good job the first time round instead of the second... we shall see though.
