the oil change

Recommended Posts

Well I did a 6K oil change today using magnatec

The oil filter that was in there was a MANN filter - with metal housing - and looked pretty good quality.

The new filter ordered from the Stealer was plasticky and looked crap in comparison. I was also open at both ends whereas the existing MANN filter was closed at the top end.

In fact the new filter looked so pathetic I just put the old one back in - after all it'd only done 6K miles.

My first question is this : does the VW filter supplied ring any bels for anyone and where can I get MANN oil filters from cos they look much better

Secondly, despite emptying the oil from the drain plug - there was still a reasonable quantity still present in the oil pan as indicated by the dipstick - even after fully draining from the drainplug. Should I drain the oilpan as well?

Helps to jack the car up slightly and change the oil when the engine is up to running temp. Give a bigger incentive not to have it run down your arm though. Dealer filters are usualy better than pattern ones, but you can get extra good ones. Its all about how much filter material they have in them, not really what the case is made of.

Dealer filters for the VR are made by Hengst and on the Corrado VR they *must* have the non-return valve (metal one). The plastic one the dealer gave you is wrong and is from a change-over Golf VR6 which had a non-return valve in the filter housing.

Part number for the correct filter is - 021 115 562
