Running rich

Recommended Posts

Hopefully all of the symptoms listed below are down to my C running rich??

Strong smell of fumes

Slightly rough idle

High rev and I get a pop

Gut less

Hesitating when accelerating

Somebody in another post said it was easy to correct over fueling on the 1.8 16v, how do I go about it? (laymans terms pls)?

My G60 has exactly the same sympthoms!

It´s the Lambda Probe!

No doubt!

The probe is original from Bosch and it has only 6 months!

Can you believe this?

Lucky me it´s under it´s 2 years guaranty! :o

kongo127, 1.8 16Vs don't have a lambda sensor...

There's an allen bolt inside the long tube on the metering head of the K-jet injection system which alters fuelling... you'll need a long allen key (can't remember the size, sorry) and an exhaust gas analyser to set it up 100% correctly... there are instructions on here (I think they were posted by H100VW) on how to set it up without the analyser, but I've never done it that way...

It's a 3mm allen key you need.

I was talking about putting extra fuel in by adjusting more stuff than the usual. There isn't a reliable way of adjusting teh mixture without a gas analyser. You could check the plugs maybe but that is olde worlde.

Yup 3mm allan key, run engine to warm, disconnect crankcase breather and red spade connector at coil - adjust idle to 1000rpm with idle screw. REST the allan key in hole at metering head do not lift or press - anticlockwise weakens. Without analyser not 100% accurate but good enought for quick fix, obviously if cuts out then too weak :D

I'd go to garage for the 10mins it takes em.
