  1. How much does Vince charge for all the bits for the timing chain job?

Does he supply a full kit for a head gasket and clutch change?

Im just beginning to think longer term and stashing bits away to make sure i don't get caught short in the future.

I only bought the chain kit from him, and a cheeky BMC intake. TBH without rooting out the invoice I can't remember exactly how much as I bought so many parts from all over at the same time. If I come across it I'll let you know

  2. Noticed Blue Perl written on the exhaust tunnel....any one else noticed that before on a Storm or did they write on all of them..???

My green storm has the writing, as did my grey valver

  3. If the supply voltage warning comes up AND you do NOT have a bad battery then you either need to clean up the abs connector plug or you have a dodgy relay or a dodgy ignition barrel perhaps?

The rest points to a bad abs pump unit and obviously the sensors themselves, but work on getting rid of the voltage one first.

Thanks, the battery is fresh. Faulty ignition barrel? How would that affect the ABS? Intermittent power?

  4. Evening all,

So my 8v has an inconsistent intermittent ABS light on, sometimes from cold start it's on, sometimes not, sometimes comes on when driving.

I had it scanned and the faults cleared, the same faults recur immediately. Besides the wheel sensor can you fine people shed any light on what the others might be?

  5. Sounds good - at least you know you will be getting all the right parts. Let us know how you get on. Are you doing the clutch as well?

The kit has arrived from Vince, he took out all the guess work.

I am doing the clutch as well, it probably needs the clutch more than the chains but I hear a strange little rattle under load which could be chain/tensioner related and I'd like to rule it out.

  6. I bought the revised timing chain kit from Stealth, Vince had it in stock and on the shelf - gaskets I bought ether from Heritage or Main Stealer, all have been listed/sold as genuine VW and all have been Elring.

Thanks Geeba, I'll give them a shout

  7. Did you ask the dealer? Don't think VW parts cost much more and I have heard that the gaskets in particular are better quality.

Good advice, for some reason I thought that nearly all parts were obsolete from VW but below are prices they came back with today, I am unsure if these are the newer style parts or not. List is from the Wiki here. Can anyone confirm?

  8. It usually displays 99.9 if defective or disconnected I think. Don't know why it would have disappeared all together. Is it the same on trip and total (1 & 2)?

Its been so long since I used my car I can't remember if its displayed on both! lol.

Yes it's the same on MFA 1 & 2, I really can't remember if it was there before, this car only comes out for the winter. I think it was but would like to hear from another 8v owner. I can't see why it would be any different to VRs and the others though. Maybe a disconnect and reconnect of the battery would be worth a try
