Thanks for all the advice guys i really appreciate it, since i only plan on doing it once i will probably have to struggle with a big spanner, david confirmed that i need to do the lot with the sentence "new inner joints can really tighten up the steering" i'll get em ordered !! Thanks peeps

Replacing as much as i can on the front, so ordered bearings and ball joints but not track rods because not sure wether to order the arm and end together ? Or just get new ends ? How hard is it to replace the entire arm ?

I was thinking of supporting the engine from underneath (bricks blocks etc) and using the beam to support the box when i was maneuvering it ?? Sounds stupid but im terrified of taking the front end off and engine out. I can foresee a box of leftover parts at the end and a dead car. Already got the chains ordered for when i do it cheers pal

Dammit !! i need to do this job but wont be able to roll the engine out because of my gravel drive. will a support beam work like suggested ? i think you can buy one for £45 then i should be able to sell it for £30ish after, or is it all a nightmare except for pulling the engine ?? god this car was sent to test me !!

Red VR6 badges front and rear !! yes please !!

I had a Ford Capri for a few years that i bought for £800 that was immaculate, i sold it for £800 but if i still had it now it would probably be worth 4k, you used to be able to pick them up for peanuts but the prices are ridiculous now. A mate at the time had a mk2 escort that he practically gave away because the welding needed was daunting but even in that state now he could probably name his price.

and be careful you dont get swayed by immaculate bodywork and interior because theres more to these cars than that, which i am finding out now. He is very good at cleaning cars and making them look good because as soon as he pulled his gate open and it was there gleaming and spotless, i pretty much did a sex wee and handed my money over, it was only when we were in his kitchen doing paperwork that i saw the mot advisories saying wheel bearing play and a few other things but because i was in experienced i thought "not too much of a problem" - but these usually lead to other problems. and im not sure if you will barter better than me but he wouldnt budge on price. at all. having said that though i still love my car. its a vr6. everyone loves my car. except the mrs.

hmmm, not sure what to say here, i just bought my first rado a few months ago from this guy, to be fair to him he was sound as a pound but i have had problems since. But i think thats mainly my fault because i got impatient and bought the first car i saw, if i had shopped around and test drove a few others maybe i wouldn't have bought this one but i dont know, the problems i have had are standard corrado problems - door handles etc. my advice - go to a few classifieds first and talk to people and test drive a few, then you might go to this guy and the car will be all good, because mine is pretty good, there are just a few things i didnt notice that if id forced myself to be abit more knowledgable i maybe would have picked up on

Well I'm back in finally. But it wasn't plain sailing. Managed to pop the drivers side open fine a week ago so i could get about but i did break the top trim piece which i am massively gutted about as my interior was pretty mint and now thats staring me in the face making me want to punch my own face. But the passenger side had me scratching my head for ages, I did the same thing as the passenger side and was sure i had popped the mechanism up like your supposed to but the handle was still locked solid, i tried and tried, lost a door pin rod (more rage inducing)and then last night trying again i just looked at it for ages double checking everything was where it should be to unlock, and tried the handle, still locked solid, at which point i lost it a bit and started trying to force the handle and jiggle it like a mad man . . . . which worked. turns out the handle must be broken in some way because once you catch the handle right it pops open fine. But if its not in its sweet spot you cant shift it at all. I took the handle out and greased everything up but it stil does the same thing. My mrs is not going to enjoy being stood in the rain with me sat in the car screaming "jiggle it !!! YOUR NOT DOING IT RIGHT !!" So all in all I'm a bit gutted. Yes I'm back in the car but the bits that I've broken/lost have annoyed me so much (and nobody else understands why im so annoyed about a piece of trim)and I'm not even sure why they did it so theres a chance it might happen again, and the passenger door handle has decided to become a royal pain in my arse. thanks everyone for your help tho especially that link from Wullie, i couldn't have done it without that. One plus point tho was i found that it has already got daves16v door kit thingy installed

oh my god if that works you are a life saver !! went out to the car this morning and the flipping passenger side is doing it now !! i'll have to go in throught the boot

Right, last night i followed everyones fantastic advice on here and changed all my rear brake pads discs and bearings, all went fine, happy days, drove to work lovely, then i finish work press my alarm fob to unlock the doors and try to get in but the handle is stuck, its stuck before but never like this, so i give it some muscle and still nothing, have to climb in from the passenger side in front of everyone at work (everyone at work who mock me for driving classic cars so i cant wait for the mickey taking on monday:bad-words:) so i get home and climb out again and i still cant get it to flipping unlock. It does the same thing with either the key in the door or on the remote fob, you unlock and the pin pops up a cm then slowly slides back down. When your sat in the car its impossible to pull the pin up to get out. What the hell is going on!?! I just want to drive my flipping car !!!!:mad::bad-words: Any advice would be appreciated Sam

Hello there, Im trying to chane my rear discs pads bearings and all that stuff, everything was going fine until i came to winding the piston back in. I have the correct tool but it wont flipping budge, i opened the bleed nipple but do i need to open the cap for the brake fluid too? And i just read about the brake bias valve needing to be locked open. Where is it and how do you lock it open? Could the calliper be seized ? Please help as my rage is boiling over !!

got these wheels on my vr6 but will be wanting to get rid soon so need to get my facts straight. vr6 fitment 5x100 (i think), 16 inch in size not sure on width or offset any help appreciated thanks Sam
-
Ok so I've done about 200 miles in the rado and I'm loving it, got my bearings pressed so as soon as the weather clears a bit i will have a go at doing that job, also got a new set of wheels which i will be fitting once i have coilovers fitted. Just ordered a foliage seal to change mine because the passenger floor is getting wet, i dont htink its the heater matrix because it isnt coolant and the door seals look spot on, so i'll change that and see if it sorts it - fingers crossed. Heres a pic anyway (if it works) And i am desperate to get some lupo wipers so i can actually see something while I'm driving !!! Also does anyone have anyone idea what the wheels are on there now ? and what they are worth ? they are 16 inch, not sure on width or offset but vr stud fitment obviously, they are practically brand new with new tyres so I'm hoping i can sell to fund coils. Someone said they might be off a transporter style van ? Thanks for looking anyway Sam
-
I thought they were the same wing mirrors !! I've been told the rear spoiler off Webbers red bull will fit aswell !!

i know i can be a skinflint but £14 postage for a haynes manual !?! is it attached to the flipping car ??

i know this is a stupid question and one that has probably been asked a billion times but what cars share their parts with corrado's ? i thought it was mk2 golf and b4 passat, but then i think a few people have said mk3 golf aswell ? i was looking for a guide to do some wheel bearings and stumbled on one that looks right but apparently its a guide for a mk4 golf ?? i was going to go and hunt for some old golf haynes manuals to help but now i have no idea which one to look for - and i know the bentley will be a massive help but its flipping expensive and i'm not sure how much i will use it in the long run. and i've looked for diy guides and how to threads on here but cant find anything, in fact i dont know whats wrong with me but i struggle to navigate my way to anything i need on here, its frustrating because i know there is a ton of info on here but i cant seem to find what i need, even when i do an advanced search. at the minute i am planning on getting haynes for old passats and mk2 - mk4 golf if i can find them cheap enough and just try and figure things out that way. i have a few bits to do in the next few weeks, i may even start some kind of a progress thread so any advice would be a great help :thumbleft: thanks Sam
