  2. Good evening. After two years, I am so close to getting my car back on the road. All I need now is for one of you guys to come up trumps. Required is one of your finest vr6 nearside front calipers in usable condition. Hasn't gotta look pretty (I can take care of that) but obviously the cleaner the better. Snapped bleed nipple and failed extraction attempts have lead too this. Thanks in advance. Jim

  6. Thanks for the feedback guys, sorry for late reply I have to work weekends. Gti Jamo, garage have fitted a new rack and it is still the same. Could be a dodgy rack I guess. Jim Bowen, you may be onto something you know. Metal pipe I had powder coated at same time as rad support crossmember and various other things and I know it flows fluid. However and this may be something that happened at the powder coaters or may have always been the same but on the left hand side (one that is connected to the ps Pump) on mine sits under the crossmember whereas on the right hand side is above. How critical flow on this pipe is I don't know and like I say fluid does flow through easily but deffo something I will have to check with garage. Front has been off the car some 18 months or so and as daft as it is I can't remember if it was like this before with the last engine or not. Sure I've seen pics of others and both ends of the metal pipe are positioned above the crossmember!? Vw owner 85 lack of noise from the pump basically, front of car off the ground you get noise from the pump at full lock as normal, front down no more pump noise and every time I took pump off the pressure relief valve would be 95% the way down. Pushing valve from the top the last little bit you get a little fluid spurt out and then the valve comes all the way up. On the green fluid, have double checked and hopefully this is the correct one. Can't remember what make but had all the vw criteria. Thanks for your ideas, I will get to the bottom of this
  7. Hi all, please help. Have looked for hours on here but with no real joy. Having problems with the pressure relief valve sticking down in my vr power steering pump. Have stripped flushed system a dozen times myself. Tried three different pumps. One that worked fine until removing old engine. One I have no history with and one reconditioned one. Have taken my time bleeding including taking weight off front, turning both wheels and pump by hand for hours on some occasions. Pump seems to work and sounds OK but as soon as you drop the front end back on the floor it stops and pressure relief gets stuck down. Strip the pump and all seems perfect even to the point where I can't make it stick myself so thinking hydrolic lock of sorts. Spoken to lots of people and they all said admit defeat and let a garage sort it. The garage have had it a month now and despite me saying that I doubt its the pump it must be a problem with the rack, they tried two more pumps before putting a new rack on. Same problem although at some point they tell me they had it working for an hour or so before stopping again. They have tried all the lines and they are all fine. My son wasn't even conceived when I started rebuilding my vr and he's one now. Really want my car back on the road but never thought a power steering problem would be my downfall. Oh yeah have replaced belt and tensioner is fine. Any feedback would be brilliant, sorry for wasting so much of your lives in reading this. All the best, Jim

  11. Hi chaps, so there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Lilfuzzer if its the exhaust cam then the sprocket u have may be from a 24v. 12s have two sets of teeth and each cam does both inlet and exhaust. The sprockets on the 12s are both the same part number i'm sure. 1 has the pickup for cam sensor fitted to it but sprockets should be the same. Swiftkid, may have a to call upon if required.   16. As its my thread fort i'd chuck couple other questions into the mix. Oil jets in block,is there much to go wrong with them? Mr Bently says to replace but not even mentioned in my book. Obv if need to be replaced then they will but if not prone 2 failing then praps just good clean might be all thats needed!? Final one for now if i can, piston rings. Any recommendations or praps more so any to avoid? Thats again, you guys r wicked!
  17. Right, as my phone doesn't let me reply with quote this is going to be 1 mega message lol. Dox i know and anyone with a bit of sence would do. Problem i have is that one of my engines is still in one dpiece in my car. Would prefer to keep it like that if i can. Ease of storage mainly. Plus and i'm sure most of us are the same i have parts of this engine in every room of the house. All my sheds, garden no joke. Even the bathroom! Add another into the mix and well... Iceviolet, ur da man! Think thats gonna b the one u know. Stoopid i know but kinda wanted to see what the bores are saying before luggin to engine shop. Mr Kevin, hey don't worry bout it i don't lets face it no cars cheap specially if there old, self inflicted poverty! Kinda come to far for a swap now, knowing my luck i'd only end up with one worse than this! Bin doing bits since nov and thats how i've bin managing, Trying to do it right once and slowly to spread the cost. Thanks for all your help u guys, v much a big help!!
  18. Cheers Dox, was thinking something similar with a strip off clear plastic. Mark the overlap n then at least have rough idea, doubt will be accurate enough tho!? I have 2 abv blocks so re bore is a no go, hoping a light hone is all that is needed on one of them. Am i that lucky... We shall see. Thanks guys
  19. Thanks, i know there not crazy money but thats still a lot with the pittance i get paid, baby on the way and a girlfriend that has been moaning since day one of rebuild, violins n all that. Could justify if was to use on a regular but for 1 off, spose could sell on after. Just wondered if there where any secrets i'd yet to stumble on that all. Thanks again yeah!
  20. Hey up everyone, Because internal micrometres are so expensive, well if not used very often. Was just wondering if there is any way of checkin bores for ovalness. Like diy styley. Obv engine shop and i know it is very critical but just thought i'd throw this out there and see how many people laugh at me. Thanks in advance, Jim
