3. Finished fitting and bleeding some 288's on my VR. MK4 GTi callipers and Golf VR discs. Initial feel a bit spongy but then some good bite. Will wait til new discs bedded in and maybe try another rebleed. Wasn't sure I should do anything with brake compensator when bleeding though?
4. Just looked over the build on his site………………fair play bud very very impressive!
5. I'm glad I ordered the GTi standard hoses now then and not the Golf VR ones………..Cheers
6. Yeah thought so thanks for the confirmation
7. Got MK4 GTi calipers and carriers for my 288mm conversion and presumed I could use the discs also, but reading various posts on here I believe thats a no no? Just laid one flat side by side with my VR6 280 disc and the 288 sits higher so the offset is obviously larger. Are the options late MK3 GTi and late Golf VR6 yeah………?
8. I reckon late Golf VR6 hoses might do the trick also………..
9. Yeah I'm sure the standard ones will fit it's just everywhere you look sellers quote different lengths? ECP and GSF quote 435mm, AVS VW 450mm, various ebay sellers quote anything from 465 to 580? I reckon some are quoting total length and some quoting from centre of banjo hole to bottom of threads. Reckon 465 is the one. Will take a trip to GSF or ECP tomorrow and see what options they got. Whatever they got I'll offer them up on the car, check em on full lock and take them back if no good.
10. Nah,VR6 hoses have different caliper end, screw in type, golf gti has banjo type……..
11. Just upgrading my 280mm VR6 brakes with some MK4 Golf GTi 288mm kit (newly powder coated calipers carriers decent discs pads and pair of hubs with bearings and abs sensors for £28! ebay result!) Does anyone who's used this setup remember what length hoses they used? The seller didn't know what year golf they came off and as you can imagine there are quite a few different lengths on offer for the MK4. I have measured roughly what it might be but just want some reassurance off someone who's done it. I know you can buy the braided kits from D&G etc but was going to get standard just to keep costs down. Cheers
12. Fair play mate it looks like new!!! Colour looks a treat
13. Yes I think they did line up kev,it was overhanging on the outside of the alt pulley. I'll chuck it back on just to check the inner faces line up though. Cheers
14. Yeah it seems to fit all vw's bar the corrado! Should be ok with the correct pulley on you'd think………..? If anyones got a spare pulley give me a holler cheers. got alternator off earlier, wasn't to bad, loosened mounts and jacked engine up. tried it through headlight hole first……….doh!!!
15. The culprit looks like the alternator pulley which should have 7 grooves and mine has 6? Previous owner or a garage must off chucked any old s**t on there. It's a bosch unit 14v 70A 0986 038 390 which is only 13mths old, so might see if I can get the pulley changed? If anyone knows anywhere…………….
16. They messed me about when I needed a crack pipe. said it was a 1-2 special order and 4 days later still no part reply was Meyle was moving premises and my part wasn't in the country yet……..?!
17. 1290 sounds right length wise? no A/C
18. Think I'll try a meyle one
19. Cheers kev. will check tomorrow in daylight………..and kopparberg is going down a treat at the mo. Euro parts do a Dayco belt, any views? Cant find one on GSF site
20. alternator ,belt and tensioner replaced by previous owner approx 13mths ago…………..correct parts though? answers on postcard pls
