vr6 start problem - ignition switch or starter motor??
waynos replied to stevef182's topic in Engine Bay
if you change the switch and it happens again get some one to put a multimeter from earth to the red/black wire on the starter. turn the key.if you dont get battery voltage at the meter theres a wiring fault.if you do its the starter or solenoid -
vr6 start problem - ignition switch or starter motor??
waynos replied to stevef182's topic in Engine Bay
ive got the same problem on my g60, bought a new ignition switch and swapped the stater for the one off my 16v and it still did it. i did notice my earth strap from the battery was going to the starter motor mounting bolt rather than the bracket on the gearbox like the 16v. swapped it to the correct place yesterday and its been fine (fingers crossed). it was wierd because if you jumped it from another car it would start straight away! (its got a new battery too) -
thanks for the comments, dunno if ill keep the wheels as it seems a lot of people are getting them now lol . ill probably space the rears out 20mm if i do keep them

the badge is only temporary until i can get a new one. heres some more pics and heres one of the bird shit that landed on the roof seconds before taking the pic

heres my g60 that i picked up a couple weeks ago! its done 117000 miles met black, needs a few things looking at - suspension top mounts and the sunroof doesnt slide. feels like a totally different car to drive from 16v - lovin it! the supercharged badge had the s missing so i decided to make a new s lol (god knows how much vw want for a new badge) the upercharged badge made a new s from bits of plastic painted the small s in mars red and the bigger one in matt black then glued together complete i need to take some more pics as its now sitting on 17 inch mam mt1s from my valver. Had trouble getting the last wheels off as the owner didnt have the locknuts and there were three different types on the car :bad-words:

... that have corrados for sale? im really after a g60. couldnt see any one here or autotrader and pistonheads havent got any i like.
-
sweet ride! very clean
-
i like the nice shiny lip, but as for the rest its a bit of a busy design and im not sure it would suit the corrado, i think the multi fitment holes ruin it

i wouldnt go with a vito, thats what i drive at work. we have two which seem to have a growing list of problems. the turbo has gone despite regular oil changes etc, door check straps breaking, roll bar link bushes that wear out in a few months, poor range on the remote locking (not the battery or key which was over 100 pounds) brake lights keep going, dodgy cd player that makes strange noises and very tail happy in the wet. However on the other side they are a smooth drive, pretty quick and ok on fuel,

the stumble could be because your ve tables are not quite dialled in yet as im pretty sure the ae is calculated off the ve. So if you can id try and get the ve table as best it can be or you may end up going in circles. I have a bit of a stumble in mine but i still havent had the time to properly go out and tune it. It wasnt noticeable when driving. EDIT: are you on the msefi forum? some of the people on there have a better knowledge than me lol

have a look at innovate products im using the lc-1 on my valver turbo and it works a treat
-
ive hooked it up again to see what the actual difference is with or without it as i had an idle of 2k without lol
-
i will get a gauge in the near future definatly, im tired of soldering too - thank god i dont have to do much more!
-
went out in it about an hour ago, feels so good to finally be back on the road. All i need to do is turn my throttle screw in a bit as the idle is high as im not using any idle control, other than that all is good!
-
bought the engine off a guy on here, it was a turbo technics engine bored out to 1900.the conrods were rebushed to lower compresion - done at stealth. think its runing around 10 psi at the moment - its seems more than enough for me at the moment! lol
-
good stuff! its always the little things that cause the problems. If it stops raining i may take mine out for a bit of tunning.also gota fit my inpro lights after i have modified them slightly
-
woop woop! well done mate , i thought that all vws used high impedance injectors - i may be wrong though. Are you back to using the g60 coil? your engine stumble will be down to your accel enrichments, a few minutes fiddling and you should be able to iron those out now problem(i use a combination of mapdot and tpsdot). As for the tach signal on mine it was a red wire (with a black trace i think?) that connected to the coil negative. i had a green wire connected at first! doh. im not even using any idle control at the moment and it seems to start and run fine

i havent looked at ms for a lttle while im a bit rusty. your pulsewidths look a tad high when you start so it maybe rich. from the log it seems that start nicely and as soon as it comes out cranking and onto your map it starts to die. Id try lowering you ve numbers around that idle area to see if it makes a difference. What firmware are you running?
-
you got a link at all mate? i cannot speak german lol
-
very nice, where did you get the gearknob if you dont mind me asking?
-
silly question but is your vb921 insulated off the heatsink? i had intermittent spark when mine wasnt. i kno they dont mention it in the mega manual but it worked for me!
-
you may have cooked the coil mate, i think in the haynes manual they have tests you can do to check
-
i used my sleeve of my jacket and my mouth to blow it out lol! was pretty scary at the time! im using 50% additive enrichment over 500 cycles - bit on the high side but i havent had a chance to tune it down yet
-
yea i say yes, although im going to make a proper ms write up very very soon! hows is yours coming along dirty torque? my car newarly caught fire 2 days ago! Went over a large pothole and i dont know how but a wire snagged(just so happened to be the 12v that runs to the ms relay box!)it grounded out n caught fire! burnt through my headlight relay and my oil pressure feed! crazy i know. thought ms would have been dead but it survived! managed to get it home and im gunna spend the weekend re routing wires using some convoluted tubing to protect every cable. Suppose i learnt my lesson!

im not using an pwm idle valve, just an auxillary air valve. work pretty well pinched this from somebody elses, might come in handy - think its off a g60 also
