    axle mounting brackets!

    The bushes are protruding 8mm so think they'll be fine. The problem is those axle brackets bolted to the floor unfortunately :? They're both off as I had to replace one cause of damage to the regulator bracket but worried about getting it setup right....
  2. Just changed the axle bushes on my VR6, bit of a nightmare but got there in the end :? The problem I've got now is putting the axle back on, made worse by the fact I've had to remove the axle mounting brackets that Bentley says don't remove! (I damaged the proportioning valve bracket trying to get the b**tard off! so didn't really have a choice.) Bentley suggests getting the toe checked if these come off? There is only a small amount of adjustment but I supposed that could mean the axle goes on scewed.... Anyone know what my best bet is, or how much it would cost to put right if I can't myself? Also, is it necessary to worry about the angle of the axle when tightening the pivot bolts? Or should it settle itself if I loosen the bolts when the car's grounded and give the car a good rocking... Thanks for any advice, it'd be most appreciated
  3. Think not pushing any pressure on was where I was going wrong, otherwise it just keeps turning and turning. Managed to make a tool out of a piece of steel so thanks a lot for your help!
  4. I'm in the process of re-washering my rear callipers, was wondering if anyone has any experience with this? The new seals are in fine, as are the dust boots. The problem is i can't seem to work out how to get the piston back into the bore. Bentley shows a press but as usuall isn't particularly well explained. I've tried this but no luck as there seems to be a thread. Is there a special technique or something..... Any advice would be really appreciated.
  5. Yep that's normal. When you take the weight off the front wheels there's a fair bit of movement. New top mounts won't hurt though if they haven't been changed before....

    Just stripped down the rear struts on my VR to change the bilstein springs for H&R and found the idiot who worked on the car before me hasn't assembled it properly! (the spacer and one of the mounts were inside the spring on one side but not the other :? Anyway, I ordered the parts that were missing and started to put it all back properly this morn. What I was wondering is are all rear struts assembled the same on all Corrados or is the VR6 different? Bentley only shows one drawing but the protective caps and supports I've ordered don't match up, Also there's another washer underneath the lower spring cap on mine that doesn't appear in the Bentley drawing..... If anyone has any advice or other drawings it'd be a great help. Thanks.

    help what is this !!!!

    Could be balancing, definitely worth checking but also there's a vibration dampener that's stuck round the driveshaft, a kind of rubber doughnut. It can work its way loose so check that. If it's loose then just cut it off!

    B&M quickshift

    Just received my new quickshift from dubsport. Problem is the leaflet with it says it's Mk3 and Jetta VR6 :roll: Am I right in thinking this won't fit or are they the interchangable?? I did double-check about 3 times on the phone it was definitely for the Corrado VR6 and they guy assured me it was.... Cheers for any help
  10. Is that a black, plastic container about 4" tall and 2.5/3" wide with a smaller breather pipe attachment? If so I did the same thing yesterday doing a compression test without the fuel pump fuse in :roll: Where abouts does it go? Looks like it's broken the plastic on whatever it was attached to so I'm hoping it's not a ba**ard to fix........

    What tyres?

    Just read through this one and wondered if it's common to oversize tyres on the VR or is this not possible? Had a 1.9GTI for years which is supposed to take 185/50's but everyone fits 195/45's....

    Been searching for that 50mm front spoiler, it's proving quite tricky.... Eurocarparts have it listed but not available, can't see it listed on GSF and VW want £50+ Any other places I might be able to get hold of one..... Cheers

    Sorry I've got a VR6, I didn't make that very clear. Think mine has an 80mm spoiler then, too close to the ground as it's been lowered. I'll see about getting the 50mm one. Don't suppose you know if they were other changes to the bumper or should it just fit straight on? Ta

    think mine's got the new interior, I'll check for the coil pack though thanks! Was looking at the front and thinking it seemed a bit different than other VR6's. Maybe the front spoiler bit under the bumper?? Do you know if this changed at all.... Thanks again

    Bilstein query....

    Ok that's great, I'll have look at some prices for the oe dampers. Are there any springs that lower around 20/25mm rather than 40? I've seen some threads recommending Eibach springs, but will they be ok with the oe dampers..... Cheers

    Bit of a pointless one maybe but was wondering, apart from the silver VR6 and Corrado badges, were there any other minor changes to the VR6 between K & L plates. Thanks
  17. Finally got hold of a decent VR6 at the weekend. Totally standard, apart from the suspension. It had bilstein springs/shocks fitted at the end of last year only I can't work out which there are, Sprintline/Streetline etc. No luck with finding a Bilstein UK contact so does anyone know how to tell the difference? They are Yellow shocks and Red springs as I'm sure most bilstein's are. The ride's pretty harsh and the front spoiler catches the occasional speed bump so I was thinking of raising the ride height with longer, or even standard springs. Is this a bad idea? I've heard Bilstein's have a stiffness adjustment built in but is this only certain types? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ta
